About The Position

Hartgrove Behavioral Health System consists of a 160-bed leading psychiatric hospital dedicated to providing quality behavioral health services for a diverse population of all ages. Hartgrove is a flagship behavioral health facility within Universal Health Services, Inc. and throughout Illinois. Hartgrove is a state-of-the-art facility offering some of the most advanced technologies and programs found in the behavioral health field. FULL TIME position JOB SUMMARY: Provides Music therapy services to patients in one or more programs of the hospital within the therapeutic milieu. Works as a member of a multidisciplinary team in planning, implementing and evaluating individualized treatment plans. The Music Therapist also provides direct patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse. Responsibilities include the provision of a safe and therapeutic milieu, crisis intervention and activities of daily living. Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Music Therapy or related field required; Master’s Degree preferred.
  • One year experience working with a psychiatric mental health population, preferably in an inpatient setting.
  • Music Therapy Certification (or is certification eligible) by the professional organization in the area(s) of expertise preferred.
  • Prefer knowledge of case management, discharge planning, group leadership skills, age specific growth and development, crisis and behavior management, family therapy theory and practice.
  • Knowledge of theory and practice of psychosocial assessments.
  • Able to work cooperatively with other hospital staff and involved community agencies.
  • Good organization skills, as well as oral and written communication skills.
  • Staff must demonstrate flexibility for reassignment to units providing care to varied populations including children, adolescents, pre adolescents and adults.

  • Lifesaving and/or water safety instructor certification desirable
  • Knowledge of case management, discharge planning, group leadership skills, age specific growth and development, crisis and behavior management, family therapy theory and practice.
