Music is a powerful tool for connection, healing, and joy. As our Music Therapist, you’ll use creativity and clinical skill to help residents thrive through meaningful musical experiences. Here’s how you’ll make an impact:

Requirements

  • Must be currently board certified, or certified within 6 months of employment, as a Music Therapist-Board Certified (MT-BC) through the national Certification Board for Music Therapists.
  • Must hold a Bachelors or Masters degree in Music Therapy from an American Music Therapy Association approved program.
  • CPR & first aid certification required.
  • Ability to cope with the stress of changing and unexpected situations.
  • An understanding of and willingness to live out our mission and values, providing compassionate person-centered care to all residents

Responsibilities

  • Create therapy that truly resonates by delivering music therapy services that meet AMTA and CBMT standards, along with state, federal, and Garden Spot guidelines.
  • Get to know each resident’s story by conducting music therapy assessments that explore emotional well-being, physical health, communication, cognition, and social connection.
  • Design personalized plans of care with clear goals and objectives, including Care Plans and Individual Service Plans, tailored to each resident’s therapeutic needs.
  • Review clinical records and medical histories to ensure therapy approaches are effective and meaningful.
  • Bring sessions to life by researching and learning music, creating playlists and CDs, building therapy aids, and preparing engaging, evidence-based interventions.
  • Lead individual and group sessions that inspire connection, expression, and growth while evaluating progress.
  • Support residents every step of the way by escorting them to and from therapy spaces as needed.
  • Maintain accurate, ethical, and timely documentation in accordance with AMTA and CBMT standards.
  • Collaborate with our Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) and contribute your expertise during team meetings.
  • Share the value of music therapy with residents, families, and staff through conversations and presentations.
  • Follow proper infection control practices, including instrument cleaning and group safety protocols.
  • Help steward the program by developing and managing a budget for instruments and therapy resources.
