About The Position

As a Music Therapist – Hospice (MT-BC) at Arc Hospice & Palliative Care, you will provide individualized, clinically grounded music therapy services to hospice patients and families across the Leesburg, Florida communities. This role supports emotional, spiritual, and psychosocial well-being through music-based interventions aligned with the interdisciplinary plan of care and plays a vital role in enhancing quality of life at end of life. The Hospice Music Therapist provides individualized music therapy services to patients and families across home, facility, and inpatient settings. As a core member of the interdisciplinary group (IDG), this role collaborates with clinical, psychosocial, and spiritual care disciplines to support comfort, legacy work, emotional expression, and meaning-centered care. Music therapy interventions are tailored to patient goals, cultural and spiritual preferences, and clinical needs, with a focus on dignity, connection, and quality of life.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Music Therapy from an accredited program required; Master’s degree preferred
  • Board certification as a Music Therapist – Board Certified (MT-BC) through the Certification Board for Music Therapists required or obtained within six (6) months of hire
  • In states where licensure is required, ability to obtain and maintain a valid state license as a condition of employment
  • Minimum of one to two (1–2) years of experience providing music therapy services, preferably in hospice, palliative care, geriatrics, or a healthcare setting
  • Proficiency with voice and at least one accompanying instrument such as guitar or keyboard
  • Ability to work independently in home and facility settings with reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license
  • Demonstrated empathy, sensitivity, and ability to support patients and families from diverse backgrounds

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to assess, plan, deliver, and evaluate music therapy interventions aligned with patient and family needs, goals, and cultural or spiritual values
  • Conduct music therapy assessments to determine appropriate interventions for symptom management, emotional support, legacy work, or life review
  • Provide live and or recorded music experiences tailored to patient condition, preferences, and functional ability
  • Support patients and families through anticipatory grief, active dying, and immediate post-death care using therapeutic music interventions
  • Participate in bereavement support activities, including memorial services or remembrance events, as part of the interdisciplinary bereavement team
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all clinical visits in the electronic medical record in accordance with hospice policies and regulatory standards
  • Participate in interdisciplinary group meetings and contribute to the development and ongoing evaluation of the plan of care
  • Provide consultation and education to staff and caregivers regarding the role of music therapy in hospice care and supportive techniques
  • Maintain an appropriate inventory of instruments, sound equipment, and supplies, ensuring proper sanitization and infection control practices during transport and use
  • Provide in-service training or community education as requested to raise awareness of music therapy in hospice care
  • Provide supervision, mentorship, and evaluation of music therapy interns when assigned, in accordance with AMTA and CBMT guidelines and Arc Hospice & Palliative Care clinical standards
  • Perform other duties as assigned
