About The Position

Full time position. JOB SUMMARY: Provides Music therapy,to patients in one or more programs of the hospital within the therapeutic milieu. Works as a member of a multidisciplinary team in planning, implementing and evaluating individualized treatment plans. The Music Therapist also provides direct patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse. Responsibilities include the provision of a safe and therapeutic milieu, crisis intervention and activities of daily living. Garfield Park Behavioral Hospital is dedicated to providing behavioral health and psychiatric support to children and teens ages 3 to 17. Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Music Therapy
  • One year experience working with a psychiatric mental health population, preferably in an inpatient setting.
  • Music Therapy Certification (or is certification eligible) by the professional organization in the area(s) of expertise preferred.
  • Lifesaving and/or water safety instructor certification desirable
  • Prefer knowledge of case management, discharge planning, group leadership skills, age specific growth and development, crisis and behavior management, family therapy theory and practice.
  • Knowledge of theory and practice of psychosocial assessments.
  • Able to work cooperatively with other hospital staff and involved community agencies.
  • Good organization skills, as well as oral and written communication skills.
  • Staff must demonstrate flexibility for reassignment to units providing care to varied populations including children, adolescents, pre adolescents and adults.
