The General Music Teacher is responsible to prepare scholars in general music in multiple buildings. This position requires developing a high-quality general music program using research-based instructional strategies, providing sound music instruction, and ensuring that all scholars can demonstrate the foundations of general music. The teacher will also be responsible for planning and executing performances, evaluating scholar progress, and maintaining effective communication with parents and the community.

  • Develop a high-quality general music program using research-based instructional strategies.
  • Provide sound music instruction enabling all scholars to know and demonstrate the foundations of general music.
  • Provide rhythmic instructions for scholars to count and clap age-appropriate rhythmic patterns independently.
  • Develop lesson plans based on the music curriculum and scholars' needs.
  • Implement a plan addressing all learning styles through differentiated instruction.
  • Plan and execute a minimum of two performances per building per year.
  • Communicate with feeder schools to establish program articulation.
  • Evaluate scholar progress based on formal and informal assessments.
  • Grade scholars and input data into the computer-based grading program.
  • Attend meetings and workshops to stay current with educational practices.
  • Provide a safe, effective classroom environment focused on learning and scholar growth.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication with scholars, parents, and staff.
  • Create and maintain positive relations with scholars, parents, staff, and the community.
  • Exercise good judgment implementing school district policies and procedures.
  • Serve as a role model for scholars and within the school community.
  • Keep organized classroom spaces and music library.
  • Work effectively with diverse scholars and staff.
  • Make and maintain regular, positive contact with parents.
  • Participate in parent meetings and contribute to community service goals.
  • Display physical, social, mental, and emotional soundness.
  • Encourage team spirit and contribute as a team member.
  • Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required.
  • Contribute to extra-curricular activities and school programs.
  • Comply with state, federal, and District policies and procedures.
  • JX/JQ K-12 music teacher certification.
  • Degree in Music Education.
  • Must have transportation to travel between buildings.
  • Must be highly organized and able to maintain accurate records.
  • Successful teaching experience working in a diverse setting.
  • Successful experience and training in Orff, Kodaly, and/or Gordon methodologies.
  • Successful experience teaching K-5 general music.
  • Determined by the collective bargaining agreement.
