About The Position

The Minister of Music is responsible to Oaklawn Baptist Church, under the supervision of the Senior Pastor, for the weekly and seasonal planning and execution of the worship service and overall music ministry of OBC, consistent with the mission, vision, values and strategies of Oaklawn Baptist Church. The Minister of Music is responsible for the pastoral care of those who serve in the music ministry of OBC. At its core, the Minister of Music should lead the members of the worship team, choir, and the congregation of OBC to Glorify God and Make Disciples through the ministry of music.

Requirements

  • A personal sense of calling from God to Christian ministry in general and specifically to Music Ministry
  • Can identify closely with the mission, values, vision, theology, philosophy and methodology of Oaklawn Baptist Church
  • A maturing Christian who demonstrates the Fruits of the Spirit, is growing in their faith and is committed to spiritual disciplines such as Bible reading, prayer and sabbath
  • The proven ability to collaborate, cooperate and function well in a team environment
  • The proven ability to think strategically and creatively work with approved ministry models and paradigms
  • Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrates strong vocal and instrumental skills
  • Knowledge of Christian music across styles and generations

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership for all music programs of Oaklawn Baptist Church
  • Provide primary worship leadership in the weekly worship services
  • Shepherd, train, manage, and care for the volunteer worship teams
  • Oversee the production of weekly and seasonal worship services
  • Develop a process to regularly identify and deploy new volunteers in music ministry of OBC
  • Develop a process to identify and deploy musical gifts in children and youth
  • With the Senior Pastor, develop a vision for the musical programming that furthers the mission of OBC
  • Work with the Senior Pastor to ensure that relevant music and worship undergird the preaching and teaching ministries of the church through doctrinal soundness
  • Maintain music ministry physical spaces (classrooms, welcome areas, storage spaces, instruments, and other equipment)
  • Work within the annual budget approved by the church and with the finance committee to develop a budget for approval
  • Attend staff meetings and retreats as required
  • Support the Office of the Senior Pastor as requested
