About The Position

Hillsborough College (HC) seeks a full-time, tenure-track Music faculty member to direct the HC Jazz Band, teach Music Appreciation, Music Theory, and Sight Singing & Ear Training and provide applied lessons in their primary performance area. The ideal candidate will support the growth of the Music Program through high-quality instruction, creative leadership, community engagement, and active participation in recruitment and outreach. THIS POSITION WILL START IN THE FALL SEMESTER OF 2026

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in music (doctorate preferred).
  • Strong performance background in an instrumental area, with the ability to provide applied lessons.
  • Candidates whose primary specialization is voice will not be considered for this position.
  • Demonstrated experience directing jazz ensembles.
  • Ability to teach Music Theory, Sight Singing/Ear Training, and Music Appreciation.
  • Commitment to serving diverse learners consistent with HC’s student-centered mission.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the Hillsborough College Jazz Band, including ensemble management, music selection, performance planning, and community outreach.
  • Teach Music Appreciation, all levels of Music Theory, and Sight Singing & Ear Training.
  • Provide applied lessons in the candidate’s primary instrument.
  • Serve as a public-facing ambassador for Hillsborough College’s Music Program,developing strong relationships with area high schools, arts organizations, performing groups, and industry partners.
  • Actively participate in the regional music scene through performances, clinics, festivals, workshops, and recruitment events.
  • Collaborate with HC’s Enrollment and Outreach teams to help attract and retainmusic students.
  • Support the organizational and administrative needs of the HC Music Department, helping keep curriculum, programs, and departmental processes aligned with the evolving music industry.
  • Assist with scheduling, program coordination, performances, juries, auditions, and other department events.
  • Participate in HC-wide initiatives, college service, committee work, and accreditation/assessment processes.
  • Contribute to HC’s National Association of Schools of Music (NASM) accreditation efforts, including preparation of documentation, data collection, curriculum review, and participation in accreditation-related meetings and evaluations.
