We are seeking a passionate and experienced Music Instructor to lead individual and group music lessons, develop engaging curriculum and assessments, and build collaborative community partnerships. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in music education, performance experience, and a commitment to fostering a positive learning environment aligned with The Salvation Army's mission. This role requires active participation in outreach, recruitment, and program development efforts. The position works up to 18 hours a week with a pay rate of $20-$23/hour depending on skills and experience. Job Objective: The music instructor will be responsible for teaching group and/or individual music lessons, developing curriculum and assessments, and establishing collaborative partnerships within the community.

  • Responsible for teaching individual and/or group music lessons.
  • Effectively design and implement curriculum, assessment rubrics, and lesson plans for each course taught. A record and summary of activities must be provided to the Arts & Education Manager on a regular basis.
  • Develop and implement ongoing collaborative partnerships for music programming with schools and organizations.
  • Required to actively participate in the recruitment and outreach efforts set forth by the Arts & Education Manager.
  • Required to attend assigned staff meetings.
  • Willing to teach additional classes and workshops as needed.
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Music, or equivalent qualified performance experience.
  • Three years required, five years preferred of teaching experience either in a classroom setting or private/group lessons.
  • Provide a record of musical performance experience.
  • Evidence of experience in curriculum development.
  • Have the ability to work with children, parents and staff in a capacity of leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to use initiative and be a self-starter.
  • Performance experience in individual content area of teaching.
  • Is expected to start class on time with room set-up and reset room as required.
  • A working knowledge of music literature.
  • Have a philosophy of education and child development, which is consistent with that of The Salvation Army.
  • A positive attitude and the ability to be flexible.
  • A willingness to promote the mission of the Salvation Army.
  • Must be Safe from Harm certified within 60 days of hire.
  • Satisfactory speaking, hearing and vision ability, and excellent manual dexterity.
  • Lifting, pulling and pushing of materials up to 25 pounds.
  • Requires bending, squatting and walking.
  • Standing for extended periods of time.
