About The Position

The Archdiocese of Chicago, the third largest in the United States, serves more than 2.2 million Catholics in 216 parishes in Cook County and Lake County, a geographic area of 1,411 square miles. St. Brigid Parish is seeking a full-time Music Director to lead and coordinate the music ministry across our two campuses. The Music Director will play a vital role in fostering vibrant, prayerful liturgies that reflect the life of our parish community and the norms of the Catholic Church.

Requirements

  • Be accomplished on both the organ and the piano.
  • Be a trained vocalist with the ability to sing in English, Spanish, and Latin.
  • Be familiar with and able to operate the sound system at both campuses.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and lead music for all weekend liturgies, feast days, holy days, school Masses, funerals, weddings, Quinceañeras, and parish events.
  • Be accomplished on both the organ and the piano.
  • Be a trained vocalist with the ability to sing in English, Spanish, and Latin.
  • Direct and develop parish choirs and musicians, including regular rehearsals and formation.
  • Hold regular rehearsals for each choir led and ensure all choir members receive line-up sheets and are well-prepared.
  • Recruit, train, and support parish cantors and accompanists.
  • Provide vocal coaching and teach basic music theory.
  • Collaborate with clergy and liturgical teams to ensure music aligns with liturgical seasons and themes.
  • Supervise and support two existing musicians.
  • Generate and share music selections for all liturgies with lead musicians one month in advance.
  • Select appropriate music for school Masses and be available to provide music at St. Patrick (1st and 3rd Thursdays) and Our Lady of Humility (Fridays) when school is in session.
  • Contact and schedule meetings with wedding couples and Quinceañera families to help select music.
  • Work with the bereavement team to approve music selections and answer questions.
  • Maintain and organize music resources, instruments, and equipment.
  • Be familiar with and able to operate the sound system at both campuses.
  • Create worship aids and presider scripts in a timely fashion.
  • Attend monthly Music/Liturgy meetings.
  • Collaborate with the St. Patrick School music program as appropriate.
  • Recruit and develop new choir members, cantors, and volunteers able to serve at either location.
  • Ensure consistent communication and volunteer management across both campuses, including practice recordings, music distribution, and recognition.
  • Work with guest musicians and vocalists to help them perform at their best.
