About The Position

Laurel Heights Hospital is a 112-bed facility located in Atlanta Ga. We are dedicated to providing youth with compassionate mental health treatment that encourages self-responsibility and personal growth. We provide psychiatric treatment to children and adolescents that present with a broad range of psychiatric, behavioral disorders and autism. A clinically skilled multidisciplinary team works to partner with the youth and family to accomplish their goals in a supportive and therapeutic environment. The Music Therapist's goals include helping patients manage pain and stressful situations, encouraging self-expression, and promoting communication, motor development, and socialization. Responsibilities include planning, organizing, directing, or assessing clinical and evidenced-based music therapy interventions to positively influence individuals' physical, psychological, cognitive, or behavioral status, designing music therapy experiences to address client needs, and performing music using various instruments.

Requirements

  • Degree in Music Therapy or related field.
  • Licensed in Georgia or eligible to obtain license within 6 months of employment.
  • Successful completion of New Hire Orientation (CPR certification, age-specific training, and the current patient aggression management training).
  • Valid Georgia Driver's License.

Responsibilities

  • Helping patients manage pain and stressful situations.
  • Encouraging self-expression and promoting communication, motor development, and socialization.
  • Planning, organizing, directing, or assessing clinical and evidenced-based music therapy interventions.
  • Designing or providing music therapy experiences to address client needs.
  • Using music for self-care, adjusting to life changes, improving cognitive functioning, raising self-esteem, communicating, or controlling impulses.
  • Designing music therapy experiences using various musical elements to meet client's goals or objectives.
  • Singing or playing musical instruments, such as keyboard, guitar, or percussion instruments.
