Provide administrative and technical support to the archives division and is primarily responsible for general collections management, archival processing, reference, and research services, and exhibit support. Applies expertise in determining appropriate levels of archival processing, including arrangement, description and preservation for a variety of collection types and sizes. Applies knowledge of the Privacy Act; management of internal and external information; access restrictions; and copyright policy, as applicable to archives management. Appraising, processing, and cataloging new and backlogged collections. Writing informed finding aids for collections. Providing reference and research support for visiting researchers, NMHM exhibits and other Museum divisions. Maintaining a master shelf-list and updating collections database records. Coordinating storage of collections. Preserving and conserving collection materials. Working with visiting researchers; processing written and telephone research requests supervising volunteers and interns. Serving on relevant Museum committees. Supporting the development of exhibits and public programs. Contributing to other Museum functions. Develops and pursues extramurally supported opportunities. Manages collections according to NMHM policy. Performs other related archival duties as assigned. Receives OSHA required annual physical for non-lab-based collections staff.
