About The Position

The Cape Fear Museum Site Manager manages the Museum of the Cape Fear and oversees the development and integration of the North Carolina Center in the Civil War, Emancipation, and Reconstruction into the Museum of the Cape Fear complex and the NC Division of State History Museums. The Museum Site Manager is responsible for the administration of day-to-day operations, including planning, development, marketing, and directing all aspects of the museum. The position directs a large staff of specialized technical professionals engaged in promoting the understanding of North Carolina History through collection, preservation, exhibition, and educational activities including setting standards and best practices, ensuring that established national and international museum standards and best practices are followed and adhered to.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience providing overall direction and guidance in a museum or related program development and collections care.
  • Demonstrated experience of financial accountability, budgeting, and facility operations.
  • Demonstrated experience using current educational trends and philosophies for museums, historic sites or similar educational organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide overall direction and guidance for the focus and development of museum resources in realization of the division and museum mission.
  • Establish social presence to promote awareness of the museums and monitor the overall image of the museum in local, regional, and state communities.
  • Provide the Director of Regional History Museums with historical and logistical information to facilitate optimal operation of the regional museum.
  • Prepare, track, and coordinate operating capital, and grant budgets and project future needs considering established strategic goals.
  • Set resource and maintenance repair priorities; approves and may process invoices for payment.
  • Develop work plans, assign and monitor tasks, evaluate work, and conduct performance reviews.
  • Serve in the community as a representative of the museum for many outside activities and events.
  • Engage with community organizations and local, state and national governmental and educational organizations to promote the museum and create new programs and/or exhibits.
  • Communicate effectively in public through writing and/or public speaking.
