About The Position

The Raclin Murphy Museum of Art strives to create positions for students to work closely with a specific Museum department while allowing moments for broad learning of museum practice. The Museum Preparator Student Assistant will work directly with our Chief Art Preparator and Preparator to prepare and maintain gallery spaces for exhibitions while practicing professional care for the objects.

Requirements

• Ability to learn new skills quickly, be methodical, and attentive to detail
• Ability to lift 50 lbs.
• Comfortable working on ladders/heights
• Familiarity with Excel
• Self-motivated and good-natured

Nice To Haves

• Experience in painting and using hand tools is helpful, but not required

• Gallery preparation, including patching and painting walls and pedestals
• Assisting with art handling, moves, and packing artwork
• Basic upkeep of galleries and cleaning
