About The Position

The Museum Educator at the Norton Museum of Art is responsible for engaging with youth and community members through art education. This role involves designing and teaching art lessons, representing the museum in various community outreach programs, and facilitating a welcoming environment for students and families. The educator will work closely with the Director of Family and Community Programs to enhance community engagement and support the museum's mission of making art accessible to all.

Requirements

  • BA in Studio Art, Art Education, Creative Arts and Culture, or Community Arts; or 4+ years of experience teaching in a structured arts environment.
  • Experience in assessing student learning outcomes and classroom management.
  • Experience teaching structured art classes that combine artistic technique with personal self-expression.
  • Capability to teach children of all abilities is a plus.
  • CPR Certification is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of virtual learning and data entry software, Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Altru preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is strongly encouraged.
  • Fluency in Creole is a plus.
  • Experience in culturally responsible teaching.

Responsibilities

  • Research, design, and teach multicultural art lessons for youth ages 6-17 at community partnership sites.
  • Individualize lesson plans to accommodate students' learning differences.
  • Contribute student work to the Marden Community Gallery Exhibition.
  • Schedule and lead tours to the Museum for community partners.
  • Meet quarterly with community partner staff to create a schedule of classes and activities.
  • Manage art class space at partnering centers and maintain an organized environment.
  • Lead community activations such as parents nights and pop-up exhibitions.
  • Maintain relationships and communication with community partners.
  • Generate art supply lists and monitor inventory at each site.
  • Assist with preparation and installation of the Marden Community Gallery exhibition.
  • Record and report attendance and conduct student evaluations annually.
  • Research, design, and teach hands-on art activities for K-12 students visiting the Museum.
  • Assist with School and Teacher professional development as needed.
  • Design and lead hands-on art projects for Art After Dark events.
  • Teach hands-on art activities during summer studio tours.
  • Lead art activities at Museum Community Days and workshops.
