About The Position

The Museum Educator position at the Battleship North Carolina Memorial is a newly created role focused on developing and implementing educational and visitor service programs. The educator will work closely with the Curator to interpret collections and crew stories, while also managing a dedicated volunteer corps to support various cultural programs and maintain the ship. This role is essential for enhancing the visitor experience and promoting the historical significance of the Battleship.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Art History, Biology, Botany, Conservation, Education, History, or Zoology from an accredited institution.
• Four years of museum or related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Knowledge of accepted museum standards and practices.
• Understanding of U.S. and regional naval, maritime, and environmental history, particularly regarding WWII.
• Experience in researching, planning, and directing educational programs for diverse audiences.
• Experience managing and engaging volunteers.

Nice To Haves

• Experience appearing on TV, radio, or podcasts.
• Experience creating content for social media.
• Preparation in museum studies, such as certification or internships.

Responsibilities

• Plan and direct cultural programs for groups and individuals of all ages, both live and virtual.
• Implement professional museum standards and practices for the Battleship North Carolina Memorial.
• Collaborate with the Curator and Programs Department to feature the ship's collections and regional maritime history.
• Serve as Volunteer Coordinator to recruit, train, and supervise volunteers, and maintain a volunteer database.
• Act as a public liaison by responding to inquiries and assisting family members of the Battleship's crew.
