About The Position

The Museum Educator, Adult Engagement, develops and delivers dynamic, inclusive programs across Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art and the Momentary (CBMO). Inspired by the collection, exhibitions, architecture, and grounds, this role leads the development, coordination, and facilitation of guide-led tours and gallery experiences while contributing to innovative public programming that engages adult and multigenerational audiences. This position ensures strong, cohesive art and architecture experiences across both campuses, expanding access and deepening engagement through thoughtful collaboration, strategic planning, and responsive program design. The role reports to the Manager of Adult Experience and works closely with colleagues across Learning & Engagement, Public Programs, Curatorial, Volunteer Services, Guest Services, Strategic Operations, Marketing & Communications, Trails & Grounds, artists, presenters, and community partners. Evening and weekend availability is required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in art history, art education, museum studies or studio art or related field required.
  • Two years’ experience in planning and presenting educational programs in an art museum setting, leading tours, public speaking or equivalent experience required.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to lead gallery conversations and create meaningful connections between artwork and audience.
  • Knowledge of the visual arts and museum pedagogy preferred; knowledge of or willingness to learn about nature, education, and architecture.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently, as well as within a team
  • Ability and willingness to work weekends, evenings and holidays as required
  • A good sense of humor and a calm demeanor under pressure
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to use or willingness to learn museum applications including Asana

Responsibilities

  • Guide-Led Tours & Campus Experiences (Across CBMO) Serve as lead educator for art, architecture, and campus tours across Crystal Bridges and the Momentary.
  • Develop, refine, and expand tour content that connects the collection, exhibitions, architecture, and grounds across both campuses.
  • Collaborate with staff at the Heartland Whole Health Institute and the Alice L. Walton School of Medicine to expand and integrate campus-wide art and architecture tour offerings.
  • Develop new tour routes and thematic experiences that respond to exhibitions, institutional priorities, and community interests.
  • Ensure consistency, quality, and accessibility of guide-led programs across CBMO.
  • Guide Training & Volunteer Leadership Develop and implement comprehensive training plans for volunteer art and architecture guides, including identifying training topics, collaborating with Volunteer Services, Curatorial, and Learning & Engagement staff, contracting guest speakers, and facilitating sessions.
  • Maintain the online learning management system to ensure guides have access to current resources and materials.
  • Serve as first staff back-up for tours when needed.
  • Act as primary point of contact for volunteer guide communications and coordinate closely with Volunteer Services to manage scheduling, tour listings, and coverage.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and reporting.
  • Partner with the Manager of Adult Experience and Director of Volunteer Services to conduct formal and informal guide assessments.
  • Foster positive, professional relationships with volunteers and staff.
  • Public Programming Development (Across CBMO) Develop and facilitate gallery programs, evening programs, and collection-inspired social experiences across Crystal Bridges and the Momentary.
  • Contribute to the innovation and development of new public programs that grow adult and multigenerational audiences.
  • Serve on cross-departmental teams to collaboratively plan and deliver multigenerational public programs.
  • Collaborate with Community Engagement to expand inclusive presenter networks and community partnerships.
  • Research trends in adult learning and audience engagement to inform program strategy.
  • Evaluate programs for effectiveness and impact, using insights to improve and evolve offerings.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Operations & Administration Coordinate logistics with Strategic Operations, including facilities, supplies, registration, and technical needs for tours and programs across CBMO.
  • Assist in the development of public program budgets and manage assigned expenditures.
  • Provide written program content and collaborate with Marketing & Communications to support promotion and audience development.
  • Institutional Collaboration & Strategic Support Partner across departments and AWE entities to ensure alignment of tours and programs with institutional priorities and campus-wide initiatives.
  • Support special initiatives, pilot programs, and future-facing projects that expand engagement across both campuses.
