About The Position

The Museum Curator position at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) involves overseeing the organization, documentation, and exhibition of historical artifacts related to the FDA. The role is situated within the Office of Operations and focuses on developing long-term plans for collection inventory, implementing care procedures for artifacts, and conducting research to support exhibitions and inquiries. The curator will collaborate with staff and historians to manage collections and provide information to the public and FDA staff.

Requirements

  • Completed all requirements for a degree or qualifying certificate from an accredited institution within the last 2 years, or released from active duty within the previous two years, or expected to graduate by the closing date.
  • Must submit transcripts or official documentation to verify eligibility under the Recent Graduate Program.
  • Must have completed a degree in museum work or a related field, or a combination of education and experience equivalent to a major in museum work.
  • For GS-9: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-07 level, or a Master's degree, or a combination of specialized experience and graduate education.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with electronic records database systems.
  • Knowledge of conservational practices for historical artifacts.
  • Familiarity with exhibition creation and artifact-centric events.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and launches long-term plan for comprehensive collection inventory.
  • Implements procedures for handling and care of objects within and outside of History Office storage.
  • Works with History Office staff to implement recommendations from external assessments.
  • Performs subject or object research in support of exhibitions and inquiries.
  • Serves as a collections manager for various projects, including exhibits.
  • Prepares, organizes, and monitors objects for potential exhibition.
  • Provides information on History Office collections to FDA staff and the public.
  • Responds to inquiries from FDA staff, the public, researchers, and organizations.
