About The Position

The successful advanced practice provider will work with the Orthopaedic service to manage inpatients, consults, and assist in the evaluation of patients in the orthopaedic urgent care clinic. The position is salaried and exempt, requiring 40 hours of work per week, with shifts scheduled from Monday to Friday, including 12-hour shifts and 4-hour shifts on weekends. The patient population focus includes inpatients, consults, and urgent care clinic patients ranging from 4 years to death.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program or Nurse Practitioner Program.
  • Currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant or APRN.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
  • ACLS certification.
  • DHEC and DEA license applications must be started prior to the first day.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in an orthopaedic setting.
  • At least 1 year of experience in the operating room.
  • Epic experience.

Nice To Haves

  • AGACNP/ACNP certification (Adult Gerontology Acute Care NP/Acute Care Nurse Practitioner).
  • Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct care to patients through comprehensive history taking and physical examinations.
  • Evaluates and treats patients based on history, physical examination, and diagnostic test results.
  • Performs therapeutic procedures as approved by the Clinical Division Chief.
  • Initiates referrals to other healthcare providers and consults with attending or collaborating physicians.
  • Documents and bills for direct care provided.
  • Utilizes current research and evidence-based decision-making in clinical practice.
  • Participates in quality/performance improvement activities and clinical research.
  • Supports accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities of the organization.
  • Participates in professional organizations and continuing education.
  • Potential to precept students enrolled as advanced practice provider students.
  • Evaluates and treats orthopaedic patients in the emergency room.
  • Manages all aspects of inpatient care in post-operative patients and those admitted due to spinal emergencies.
  • Collaborates with other inpatient consultants.
  • Screens patients for orthopaedic surgical pre-op appointments.
