About The Position

The advanced practice provider will first assist in the Operating Room for orthopaedic surgeons in providing primary health care in the treatment of patients. The ideal candidate will complete history, physical, and pre/post-op orders. The APP will be accountable to the Orthopaedic Department Chair. The Orthopaedic surgeon of the day will direct the APP to the cases needing assistance.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program or Nurse Practitioner Program.
  • Currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant or APRN.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
  • ACLS certification.
  • DHEC and DEA license applications must be started prior to first day.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in managing stable chronic disease states in primary care settings.
  • Experience in pediatric care as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct care to patients through comprehensive history taking and physical examinations.
  • Evaluates and treats patients based on history, physical examination, and diagnostic test results.
  • Performs therapeutic procedures in accordance with procedural privileges.
  • Initiates referrals to other health care providers and consults with attending or collaborating physicians.
  • Documents and bills for direct care provided.
  • Utilizes current research and evidence-based decision-making in clinical practice.
  • Participates in quality/performance improvement activities and clinical research.
  • Supports accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities of the organization.
  • Demonstrates responsibility for professional practice through active participation in professional organizations and continuing education.
  • Potential to precept students at MUSC enrolled as advanced practice provider students.
  • Evaluates and treats orthopaedic patients in an ambulatory setting.
  • Manages all aspects of inpatient care in post-operative patients and patients admitted due to spinal emergencies.
  • Collaborates with other first assist care team members and physicians.
  • First assist with orthopaedic surgery.
