About The Position

The Clinical Laboratory Manager at MUSC is responsible for overseeing the laboratory's operations, ensuring compliance with regulations, and providing clinical and administrative support. This role requires in-depth knowledge of laboratory testing, reporting procedures, specimen collection and processing, as well as the operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment. The manager will supervise all care team members in the laboratory, support the Lab Director, maintain lab quality control, update policies and procedures, and perform technical bench duties as needed. The position involves directing major functional areas of the department, managing professional and support staff, and collaborating with leadership to improve operational efficiencies and quality outcomes.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Work Experience.
• 7 years progressive work experience.
• 2 years management experience.
• MT/MLS degree with ASCP or AMT certification required.
• State licensure and/or professional certification as required.
• Current AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Directs one or more major functional areas of the laboratory department.
• Manages two or more professional and support staff including subordinate managers.
• Directs the analysis, planning, implementation, and budget tracking of major operational projects.
• Provides recommendations to leaders throughout the organization.
• Leads in developing strategies and implementation plans to improve and standardize operations.
• Collaborates with department leadership to support the budget process and meet operational goals.
• Establishes department policies and procedures.
• Serves as the primary liaison for the department.
• Manages relationships with senior management, administrators, and staff to achieve best practices.
