About The Position

The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) is responsible for quality patient care under the direction of a physician or licensed healthcare provider in a clinical practice. Duties include rooming patients, taking vitals and health history, documenting in an electronic medical record, giving injections, and assisting with minor procedures. The CMA ensures accurate calibrations, cleaning, and scheduled maintenance of clinical/lab equipment as required by OSHA, DHEC, and UMA. They maintain and review patient records, communicate plans of care to patients, and assist with scheduling appointments and referrals based on urgency and availability. The CMA also screens patients for appropriate information, observes and reports on patients' conditions, and instructs patients regarding treatment and medication.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an accredited medical assisting program.
  • One year of patient care experience preferred.
  • Certification through AMT, AAMA, NHA, NAHP, MedCA, NCCT, or NAHP.
  • Current AHA BLS certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification.

Responsibilities

  • Room patients and take vitals and health history.
  • Document in an electronic medical record.
  • Give injections and assist with minor procedures.
  • Ensure accurate calibrations, cleaning, and maintenance of clinical/lab equipment.
  • Maintain and review patient records and charts.
  • Communicate plan of care to patients and develop patient education materials.
  • Maintain exam room supplies and cleanliness.
  • Assist with scheduling of appointments and referrals.
  • Screen patients for appropriate information and provide patient education.
  • Observe, record, and report patient's physical and psychosocial condition.
  • Respond to and triage phone calls.
  • Call in orders as ordered by physician.
  • Instruct patients regarding treatment and/or medication.
  • Monitor and distribute medication including samples and controlled substances.
  • Prepare patients for physician exams and procedures.
  • Administer prescribed treatments and tests.
