About The Position

The Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant is under the general direction and responsibility of the supervising/collaborating physician, assumes responsibility and accountability for providing care including E&M Services, H&P, discharge management, and EP procedural assistance for assigned electrophysiology patients. Collaborates with members of the cardiology team to establish protocols, supervise treatment plan and monitor quality of clinical practice.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program or an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program.
  • Currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant or APRN.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required for adult inpatient positions.
  • Master's degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Two years clinical experience required, with at least one year in a specialty area of care.
  • Certification as a Nurse Practitioner specific to the area of employment required unless a new graduate.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in electrophysiology or cardiology.
  • Certification as AGPNP/ANP or AGACNP/ACNP.
  • Experience with quality/performance improvement activities.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct care to patients through comprehensive history taking and physical examinations.
  • Evaluates and treats patients based on history, physical examination, and diagnostic test results.
  • Initiates referrals to other healthcare providers and consults with the attending or collaborating physician.
  • Documents and bills for direct care provided.
  • Utilizes current research and evidence-based decision-making in clinical practice.
  • Performs and participates in quality/performance improvement activities and clinical research.
  • Participates in and supports accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities of the organization.
  • Demonstrates responsibility for professional practice through active participation in professional organizations and continuing education.
  • Potential to precept students at MUSC enrolled as an advanced practice provider student.
