About The Position

Municipal Worker I – Events performs entry-level event, custodial, and maintenance support for Arts & Culture facilities. Work includes room setups, basic cleaning, general labor, and helping prepare event spaces at the SteamPlant Event Center, Rotary Scout Hut, Riverside Park, and the downtown Salida Creative District. This position follows established procedures and works under close or general supervision. Must be available for evening, weekend, and holiday shifts.

  • Willingness to learn event-production operations.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience in event support, custodial operations, or facility maintenance preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Open and secure facilities before and after events.
  • Set up, arrange, and move furniture, equipment, and décor for meetings, programs, and events.
  • Perform routine cleaning of buildings and grounds, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and sanitizing surfaces.
  • Clean kitchens and restrooms; replenish supplies.
  • Assist with carpet cleaning, stripping, waxing, buffing, and polishing surfaces as directed.
  • Perform basic outdoor upkeep including trash pickup, debris removal, and snow/ice removal.
  • Clean windows, fixtures, walls, furniture, and work areas.
  • Assist in maintaining custodial equipment and storage areas.
  • Identify and report facility repair needs or safety concerns.
  • Ensure equipment and supplies are stored safely and appropriately.
  • Ensure event setups follow lease requirements, fire code, and safety standards.
  • Assist with the smooth turnover of events and contribute to efficient workflow processes.
  • Provide courteous customer service to patrons, renters, performers, and vendors.
  • Support the efficient turnover of event spaces between events.
  • Notify the Arts & Culture Manager when repairs, safety concerns, or operational needs arise.
