About The Position

WCG is seeking an experienced Municipal & Transportation Planner to work on a variety of urban and transportation planning projects. This full-time or part-time position offers flexibility in scheduling and primarily allows for remote work, although local candidates are preferred for occasional in-person meetings. The role emphasizes work/life balance and requires the ability to meet deadlines while collaborating with stakeholders and managing project budgets.

Requirements

  • Excellent written and verbal presentation/communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear and concise reports.
  • Working knowledge of land use planning, zoning, economic development, transportation planning, open space planning, recreation planning, historic preservation, and affordable housing.
  • Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to facilitate inclusive dialogue with diverse stakeholders.
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in urban, city, transportation or regional planning.
  • American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification or willingness to obtain shortly.
  • 3-15 years of planning experience.
  • Experience with various planning documents such as General Plans, Zoning maps, Future Land Use Maps, and Transportation Plans.

  • Experience with urban design software or GIS software.
  • Rich resume of planning experience.

Responsibilities

  • Researches, analyzes and interprets social, economic, population and land use data and trends.
  • Prepares complex written reports and recommendations on various planning matters and elements of planning documents or proposals.
  • Works both collaboratively and independently on projects.
  • Develops and maintains budgets and schedules for planning projects.
  • Provides creative solutions for urban planning and growth dilemmas based on proven methods and innovative thinking.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and contract obligations.
  • Balances population growth with community needs in each project.
  • Facilitates stakeholder and public involvement and consensus-building meetings.
  • Attends evening meetings as needed to provide professional planning assistance to member communities.
