About The Position

The Municipal Sustainability Manager is responsible for leading complex projects and policy development to advance sustainability and climate action within the municipal organization. This role involves coordinating sustainability initiatives, conducting research, providing data-driven recommendations, and implementing solutions to meet municipal climate goals. The position may also include direct supervision of staff and requires a high degree of specialized knowledge in sustainability practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in planning, business, finance, or a related field.
  • Two (2) years of supervisory experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree in Environmental Studies, Public Policy and Administration, Planning, or Business Administration.
  • Two years of experience with Climate Mitigation, Adaptation, and Equity.
  • Experience with data and metrics development, tracking, and reporting.
  • Experience with Sustainability Reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Manages and coordinates municipal sustainability projects and activities among the organization's leadership and various departments.
  • Assists with prioritizing initiatives that advance the implementation of the City Council-approved SA Climate Ready Plan.
  • Oversees coordination between divisions/departments throughout the duration of projects.
  • Prepares City Council agenda material such as ordinance memorandums and presentations.
  • Coordinates and prepares reports, presentations, and correspondence.
  • Assists in developing and tracking specific municipal climate and sustainability benchmarks.
  • Suggests and implements management solutions to address sustainability challenges faced by the organization.
  • Assists in planning and delivering on the departmental work plan with Office of Sustainability staff and leadership.
  • Serves as departmental/divisional representative at conferences and meetings.
  • May supervise, train, and evaluate staff.
