About The Position

The Municipal Revenue Collector is responsible for overseeing the administration of the municipal revenue collection program, ensuring compliance with statutory and ordinance responsibilities. This role involves planning, organizing, and supervising the billing and collection of various taxes, as well as managing a small team to ensure efficient operations and accurate financial reporting.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree from a four-year college or university
• Two to three years of related experience and/or training
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals and government regulations
• Ability to write reports and business correspondence
• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts and percentages
• Certified Connecticut Municipal Collector or equivalent is required
• Must be bondable

Nice To Haves

• Experience in tax collection or municipal finance
• Familiarity with State and Town Statutes regarding tax collection

Responsibilities

• Supervises employees of the Municipal Revenue Collection Department
• Prepares cash deposits and fills out cash control sheet
• Records and reconciles revenue by category and account
• Handles large amounts of cash
• Annually prepares municipal tax bills and mails copies to taxpayers
• Updates and maintains the Office Procedure manual regularly
• Interacts with the public regarding complaints and other matters
• Researches and processes customer claims of tax payment
• Coordinates collection procedures such as warrants, foreclosures, or sales of property
• Assists with related special projects as required
• Reviews, interprets, and implements procedures to comply with laws and regulations
• Participates in professional organizations and attends relevant seminars and conferences
