About The Position

The Court Clerk I/II/III position at the City of Abilene involves performing a variety of duties in support of the Municipal Court, including managing court documents, financial records, and case scheduling. Requirements

  • Three (3) years of cash handling and customer service experience for Court Clerk I.
  • High school diploma or GED is required for all levels.
  • Court Clerk Level I certification is preferred for Court Clerk I.
  • Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in court operations and some supervisory experience for Court Clerk II.
  • Court Clerk Level I certification is required for Court Clerk II.
  • Six (6) years of increasingly responsible experience in court operations and some supervisory experience for Court Clerk III.
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or a closely related field for Court Clerk III.
  • Court Clerk Level II certification is required for Court Clerk III.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with various office operations and functions, including administering oaths and processing traffic and city ordinance violations.
  • Handle parking citations and compile data.
  • Process court documents and prepare transcripts of cases, appeals, and other information upon request.
  • Submit reports to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
  • Prepare summons, subpoenas, complaints, and warrants for arrest as necessary.
  • Process legal documents and prepare certified copies of records as necessary.
  • Communicate in person, by phone, and through correspondence to respond to inquiries and provide information.
  • Explain, interpret, and implement new laws, policies, and procedures; maintain court records in accordance with city ordinance and state laws.
  • Promote and maintain positive relations with city officials, judges, attorneys, other agencies, and the public.
  • Perform complex tasks of the municipal court and respond to complex complaints and requests for information.
  • Manage criminal proceedings and docketing; oversee processing deferrals, judgments, probation, and related processing.
  • Explain and train clerks on new court software procedures.
  • Provide support to the Court Administrator, plan and organize workloads and staff assignments, and review progress and direct changes as needed.
  • Manage and supervise the receipts, depositing, and accounting of monies for fines, forfeitures, and other court receipts.

Benefits

  • Full-time position with a salary range of $16.76 - $22.60 an hour.
