This position will support the NASA Multipurpose Habitat (MPH) Technical Integration team - part of the Artemis portfolio at NASA Marshall Space Flight Center. As an MPH SEI Project Engineer/Sr Project Engineer (Project Engineer/ Senior Project Engineer - Systems Engineering), you will be responsible for leading MPH Systems Engineering and Integration and Planning. You will coordinate with other lunar surface elements (e.g., landing systems, EVA suits, rovers), tech authorities, subject matter experts, etc. to create, review, update, and maintain documents for the MPH and MPH international partners. As an Aerospace Employee, you will represent the Aerospace Human Exploration and Spaceflight (HESF) team. The primary functions of the role require technical knowledge and systems engineering & integration (SEI) expertise, as well as strong leadership and integration skills.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree or advanced degree in engineering or science.
  • 6 or more years of increasingly responsible professional engineering/scientific experience, including experience in systems engineering and program lifecycle environment.
  • Working experience in NASA program life cycle and associated milestone reviews.
  • Working experience in NASA SEI processes, including development of SEI products.
  • Working experience in CMW (NASA program for supporting technical baseline documentation and CRs), SharePoint, and wiki pages.
  • High level knowledge of spacecraft subsystems including Environmental Control and Life Support (ECLSS), power, thermal, comm, (no propulsion).
  • Familiarity with space operations and EVA operations.
  • Knowledge of space flight certification processes to ensure performance and safety requirements are met.
  • Excellent presentation and communications skills, including development and briefing of decision packages and complex information in a succinct and polished manner.
  • Ability to lead technical TIMs on various topics and coordinate between NASA SMEs and international partner project team to schedule virtual working TIMs, and share technical information to advance the MPH project.
  • Ability to identify risks and support development of risk mitigation steps and impact assessments.
  • Ability to work in a quick-paced, small core team that leads technical discussions across a large technical community and influences teams across the NASA enterprise.
  • Initiative and demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers.
  • Excellent teaming and leadership skills with an ability to multi-task across various issues/disciplines simultaneously.

Responsibilities

  • Create, update, and maintain SEI technical documents and presentations as required to develop and refine requirements, specifications, interfaces, conops, and plans.
  • Define timelines, status progress, coordinate with internal and external SMEs, review and release documents, and lead change requests (CRs).
  • Coordinate with MPH international partners.
  • Develop, update and retire MPH Ground Rules and Assumptions (GRAs).
  • Work cross-stakeholder inputs to interface documents with other programs (e.g., EVA and Human Surface Mobility Program [EHP]), projects (e.g., lunar landers, space suits, rovers), and MPH international partners.
  • Inform Verification and Validation (V&V) and related activities as MPH progresses through lifecycle.
  • Review CRs related to MPH and the lunar surface phase (external documents routed to MPH for review/comment) and other CRs, as needed.
  • Assist with project lifecycle reviews (generate documentation and presentation content, present as needed).
  • Coordinate and lead meetings related to technical, trades and analysis, and maintain awareness of potential changes needed, and coordinate with stakeholders and MPH international partners to provide impact assessments for management review and disposition.
  • Identifies, develops and manages project technical risks.
