About The Position
WTAJ-TV is looking for a driven and energetic Multimedia Journalist (MMJ) to join their news team in Altoona, PA. WTAJ-TV is Your News Leader in Central Pennsylvania, committed to local journalism that informs, impacts, and inspires the community. In this role, the MMJ will cultivate sources, gather interviews and visuals, and connect with the audience across various platforms including on-air, online, and the streaming channel WTAJ+. This market offers significant opportunities for making a mark in broadcast and digital news, with a vibrant local scene including outdoor activities, family entertainment, college sports, minor league baseball, and cultural events. The Multimedia Journalist Reporter is responsible for producing, reporting, shooting, writing, voicing, editing, and feeding news production content for all platforms, ensuring it is clear, engaging, and meaningful to news consumers. This includes reporting news stories for broadcast, arranging interviews, and creating daily content for the website and social media channels.
Requirements
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written with the ability to ad lib when required
- Superior on-air presence
- Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
Nice To Haves
- Proficiency in Adobe Premiere and Photoshop experience is a plus
Responsibilities
- Produces and presents reports for WTAJ, WTAJ.com, and WTAJ+, as well as social media
- Reports news quickly and accurately and ensures that all content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality
- Gathers information about events through research, interviews, experience or attendance at political, news, sports, artistic, social or other functions
- Pitches stories to news managers and news producers which are relevant to the local community
- Performs special projects and other duties as assigned
