Job Summary/Description: First Alert 4 is seeking a Hybrid MMJ/Producer to help lead daily coverage in the St. Louis market. This role blends enterprise, field reporting, and digital-first storytelling with the ability to step in and independently produce newscasts as the Newsroom's needs demand. The ideal candidate brings sharp news judgment, strong writing, calm execution under deadline, and the flexibility to pivot quickly for breaking news and severe weather.

Requirements

  • 2+ years professional newsroom experience (MMJ, producer, or similar).
  • Demonstrated ability to produce a newscast independently.
  • Strong news judgment and the ability to recognize, develop, and execute lead stories.
  • Proven commitment to accuracy, verification, and ethical newsgathering under deadline pressure.
  • Excellent broadcast writing and editing skills; close attention to detail and organization.
  • Proficiency in shooting, writing, and editing content for linear newscasts.
  • Digital-first mindset, with experience adapting stories for web, streaming, and social distribution.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a major-metro or high-tempo newsroom.
  • Comfortable switching seamlessly between producer and MMJ duties based on coverage needs.
  • Familiarity with weather- and breaking-news-driven workflows in the St. Louis market.

Responsibilities

  • Pitch and lead coverage by generating compelling, relevant story ideas and enterprise angles for linear, web, and social.
  • Report as an MMJ: research, write, shoot, edit, and present stories, including live/field reporting as assigned.
  • Produce newscasts when needed, including stacking shows, writing scripts, building rundowns, and coordinating timing/content with the team.
  • Prioritize and elevate lead stories by identifying the strongest visual elements, characters, and facts to drive impact.
  • Ensure accuracy and standards through strong verification, responsible sourcing, and editorial oversight before air and publication.
  • Collaborate across the newsroom with anchors, reporters, photographers, digital producers, and managers to deliver cohesive coverage.
  • Manage multiple deadlines while staying organized in a fast-paced, high-expectation environment.
  • Maintain schedule flexibility for breaking news, severe weather, and major events across the St. Louis metro.
