About The Position

Under the general direction of the Executive Director of Branding and Communications, the Multimedia Developer Lead and Creative Storyteller plays a pivotal role in shaping and advancing Thunderbird School of Global Management at Arizona State University’s visual and multimedia communications. This role leads the conception, production, and delivery of high-impact video and photography across digital platforms, including websites, social media, newsletters, and marketing collateral. Working in close partnership with the Branding and Communications team, this position brings to life the people, programs, and global impact of the Thunderbird community through compelling, brand-aligned visual storytelling. The role is central to capturing and conveying the unique perspectives of our global T-bird community, translating complex experiences into engaging multimedia content that resonates with audiences worldwide. By strengthening visibility, connection, and engagement across external audiences, this role directly supports Thunderbird’s ambitious global mission and elevates its presence on the international stage. The Multimedia Developer Lead and Creative Storyteller blends strong creative vision with deep technical expertise to deliver polished, innovative multimedia experiences that honor and amplify Thunderbird’s nearly 80-year legacy of leadership in global education. This position leverages advanced tools, including AI-enabled technologies, to enhance ideation, storyboarding, animation, sound design, and production workflows, while continually adopting emerging technologies and best practices to drive creative excellence and efficiency. The ideal candidate is a globally minded, tech-savvy creative with a strong portfolio in photography, videography, and digital content creation. They are a proactive, detail-oriented communicator with strong editorial judgment who thrives in a dynamic, collaborative environment and is eager to grow in a leadership role within global marketing and communications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and seven (7) years of experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated expertise in multimedia design and production, including video, photography, animation, and post-production workflows, with a strong understanding of industry standards and best practices.
  • Proven storytelling ability, including capturing compelling interview-based content through video shooting, editing, and production, and actively leading and participating in photo and video shoots.
  • Advanced proficiency in video editing and creative tools, including Adobe Premiere Pro and Photoshop, with working knowledge of After Effects and Lightroom.

  • Outstanding attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills, paired with strong editorial judgment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the conception, design, and production of high-quality multimedia content that advances Thunderbird’s strategic marketing and communications, as well as highlight the unique aspects of Thunderbird, its students, alumni, faculty, and initiatives.
  • Determine the most effective creative approach, format, medium, and level of complexity to achieve desired outcomes across digital, web-based, and experiential platforms.
  • Design and develop compelling visual layouts and multimedia concepts, motion graphics, sound, and interactive elements as appropriate.
  • Integrate AI tools to innovate and continuously learn and adopt new technologies to stay at the forefront of the industry.
  • Produce, direct, shoot, and edit video and photographic content for a wide range of uses, including promotional campaigns, academic programming, events, interviews, digital storytelling, and social media.
  • Streamlines production workflows, leads multimedia projects from concept through execution, and fosters collaboration across teams to ensure quality and consistency.
  • Serve as producer and/or director for studio and field productions, overseeing scheduling, location selection, storyboarding, filming, recording, and post-production to ensure cohesive and high-quality results.
  • Collaborate with content writers, designers, and other team members to integrate multimedia content into digital campaigns.
  • Operate and maintain professional video, audio, lighting, and editing equipment; determine special effects, composition, pacing, and overall visual design to achieve creative and brand-aligned outcomes.
  • Capture high-quality images that reflect the essence and energy of the Thunderbird community, including events, headshots, campus life, and promotional materials.
  • Maintain an organized digital asset management system (DAM), ensuring best practices for file naming, storage, archiving, backup, and long-term accessibility of multimedia assets.
  • Ensure all multimedia content meets accessibility standards, technical requirements, and best practices for usability, engagement, and inclusivity.
  • Leverage AI tools to repurpose existing content into different formats, such as transforming written work into videos, maximizing content utility and reach.
  • Mentor team members and student workers, sharing expertise and fostering professional growth within the team.
  • Develop and assess metrics to evaluate the effectiveness and impact of multimedia projects on engagement, communication goals, and school outcomes.
  • Collaborate across Thunderbird departments to identify multimedia needs and opportunities that enhance storytelling, visibility, and institutional impact.
  • Travel domestically and internationally, as needed, to support multimedia production and institutional initiatives.
  • Manage and maintain photography and videography equipment, ensuring it is in excellent working condition.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues related to photography and videography equipment and software.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
