About The Position

Like all HCF team members and volunteers, the Multimedia Designer exudes the heart and passion for HCF’s mission: to inspire the spirit of giving and invest in people and solutions to benefit our community. The Multimedia Designer creates visually engaging and accessible multimedia assets that amplify the organization’s programs, storytelling, and community impact. This role supports design needs across digital and print platforms, producing materials for reports, social media, websites, presentations, events, and campaigns. Working closely with the Creative Director and cross-functional teams, the Multimedia Designer ensures all content is on-brand, mission-aligned, and designed to engage diverse audiences.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of design experience.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and digital design tools.
  • Strong attention to detail and visual storytelling skills.
  • Experience preparing files for print and digital production.
  • Experience in email platforms (EMP) and content management systems (CMS) and SharePoint Online websites
  • Experience managing website re-design, ongoing site enhancements, and maintenance
  • Experience communicating interactive ideas in-browser with front-end reference code (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)
  • Experience integrating digital and non-digital communication practices and tools for a seamless user experience across platforms
  • Solid foundation in typography, layout, graphic design and copywriting
  • Excellent visual, written and oral communication skills; strong aesthetic skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively with varied constituents including government officials, business and nonprofit leaders, and donors.
  • Ability to be extremely discrete in working with or having knowledge of sensitive or confidential information related to client and donor information, relationships, and funds.
  • Demonstrated capacity in handling multiple projects while effectively managing timelines and expectations
  • Ability to effectively take direction and work both collaboratively and autonomously
  • Organized, able to prioritize tasks, communicate progress and meet deadlines
  • Thorough knowledge, sensitivity, and understanding of the history and complexities of Hawai‘i’s multicultural community as well as current events and social issues.
  • Demonstrated passion for the betterment of Hawai‘i and its people.
  • Capable of thriving in a highly collaborative and flexible organization with an appreciation and respect for colleagues of diverse backgrounds and perspectives and an enthusiasm to continually shift and evolve to meet the needs of the community, clients, and donors.

Responsibilities

  • Design and produce print and digital assets including impact reports, social media graphics, web visuals, email templates, advertisements, presentations, and event materials.
  • Support campaigns and storytelling initiatives with engaging visual content.
  • Maintain brand consistency and accessibility standards across all materials.
  • Collaborate with the Creative Director on concept development and execution.
  • Manage multiple projects and timelines simultaneously.
  • Prepare files for print and digital distribution.
  • Ensure accessibility, inclusivity, and cultural responsiveness across all visual content.
  • Monitor emerging design trends and tools relevant to mission-driven communications.
  • Collaborate with Strategic Communications, Development, Program teams, and leadership to translate strategies into compelling visual storytelling.
  • Provide quality assurance of all creative deliverables, including usability, consistency, functionality, copy accuracy, digital rights, asset sizing, and appropriate image resolutions for intended channels
  • Handle daily tasks tied to creative production troubleshooting issues that could slow down the process
  • Manage and work closely on creative projects with staff, vendors, and contractors from concept to completion
  • Partner collaboratively with HCF’s Information Systems Group to coordinate the implementation and/or support of HCF’s intranet website, external website, and other technology-related systems
  • Complete projects both independently and in partnerships
  • Present strategies and design concepts to upper management, partners, and others
  • Motivate top performance and accountability through shared, and clear communication of collaborative goals and objectives.
  • Partner collaboratively with other staff members to ensure effective outcomes
  • Serve as a knowledgeable and collaborative representative of HCF in the community
  • Deliver excellent service to all clients (internal and external) and exceed HCF’s service standard expectations whenever possible
