About The Position

The Multifamily Loan Underwriter is responsible for the financial analysis, risk assessment, and underwriting of multifamily loan opportunities within Morgan Properties’ lending platform. This role plays a critical part in evaluating loan requests, ensuring credit quality, and supporting disciplined portfolio growth. The Underwriter partners closely with originations, portfolio management, legal, and closing teams to deliver accurate, timely, and well-structured credit decisions. The ideal candidate is highly analytical, detail-oriented, and thrives in a fast-paced, transaction-driven environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Real Estate, Business Administration, or related field
  • Minimum 3-5 years in real estate finance, with focus on multifamily credit underwriting
  • Solid understanding of multifamily valuation methods, loan structures, and credit risk assessment.
  • Advanced financial modeling and analytical capabilities.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Experience with CRM systems and financial modeling tools.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong experience underwriting bridge loans, value-add transactions, and transitional assets preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and underwrite multifamily loan opportunities, including bridge, acquisition, refinance, and value-add transactions.
  • Perform comprehensive financial analysis, including borrower financial statements, rent rolls, operating statements, and cash flow projections.
  • Prepare detailed underwriting models and credit memorandums outlining transaction risks, mitigants, and recommendations
  • Evaluate property fundamentals, market conditions, sponsor strength, and exit strategies.
  • Conduct thorough due diligence including property valuation, market analysis, third-party reports, and sensitivity analysis.
  • Identify key risks related to asset performance, market trends, sponsor capability, and capital structure.
  • Ensure compliance with internal credit policies, regulatory requirements, and investor guidelines.
  • Collaborate with originators to structure loan terms, including sizing, pricing, reserves, covenants, and exit assumptions.
  • Provide underwriting feedback to optimize transaction structure and risk-adjusted returns.
  • Support negotiations by providing analytical insights and credit recommendations.
  • Partner with originations, asset management, legal, and operations teams to facilitate efficient transaction execution.
  • Support loan closings by responding to underwriting questions, reviewing final documentation, and confirming credit approval terms.
  • Assist in post-closing loan surveillance and portfolio monitoring.
  • Prepare underwriting reports, pipeline updates, and portfolio analytics for management and investment committees.
  • Assist with ongoing asset performance tracking, covenant compliance, and risk monitoring.
  • Ensure underwriting activities comply with fair lending laws, anti-money laundering regulations, and internal credit policies.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and audit-ready credit files.
