About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Property Accountant to join our team of dedicated professionals in Carlsbad, CA. This role supports a multifamily real estate portfolio and is ideal for a self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment and consistently meets month-end reporting deadlines. The ideal candidate has at least 3 years of accounting experience, preferably in multifamily or property management, and strong proficiency in Yardi Voyager.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of accounting experience; multifamily or property management experience strongly preferred
  • Proficiency in Yardi Voyager highly desired
  • High school diploma required; a degree in Accounting is preferred
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency with MS Excel, MS Word, Outlook, and 10-key by touch
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including regular interaction with property management personnel, senior leadership, vendors, and lenders
  • Client-service oriented; confident, proactive, and professional
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and follow up consistently
  • Ability to work efficiently and accurately under deadlines

Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly financial statements for assigned properties, including chart of accounts maintenance, trial balance review, and journal entry processing
  • Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of daily revenue reporting
  • Manage accounts payable — verify invoices, confirm coding and approvals, and ensure vendors are paid on time
  • Maintain the general ledger and reconcile balance sheet accounts each month
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations and daily treasury management across property bank accounts
  • Record monthly accruals, prepaid expenses, and associated journal entries
  • Analyze actual results against budget; identify and explain variances and extraordinary expenses
  • Assist with cash projections and funding requests
  • Monitor real and personal property tax status and ensure timely payment
  • Partner with the Controller daily on property cash management and other operational matters
  • Prepare required compliance reporting
  • Serving as the primary point of contact for properties managed by third-party management companies
  • Ensuring timely month-end close and release of final financials in accordance with reporting schedules and lender requirements
  • Reviewing bank reconciliations prepared by third-party accounting service providers for completeness and accuracy
  • Initiating wires, transfers, and ACH payments as needed
  • Coordinating with the Controller to set up operating, money market, and security deposit bank accounts
  • Managing online banking for assigned properties
  • Supporting the Controller with audit and tax requirements
  • Assisting in the preparation of annual audits
  • Preparing year-end accounting and compliance reporting for applicable governmental entities
  • Other duties as assigned
