About The Position

SURVICE Engineering is currently seeking a Multidisciplinary UAS Engineer to support our Chesapeake Research Operation. You will design, troubleshoot, and support high-reliability printed circuit boards used in tactical drones and payloads that are actively deployed with US DOW. This is not a "big-company, paperwork-heavy" position, you will take boards from concept through layout, fabrication, assembly, bring-up, environmental qualification, and limited-rate production.. You will accelerate your career and become an integral team member within the defense community.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Engineering related discipline and 1+ years of relevant experience. Candidates are not required to possess all qualifications; is you possess some of the desired qualifications, please apply.

Nice To Haves

  • 2-5 years of professional PCB design and hardware development experience (internships and personal projects count favorably).
  • Proficiency with Altium Designer or comparable software (schematic, layout, 3D PCB, vault, output generation).
  • Strong debugging and soldering/rework skills (down to 0402, fine-pitch BGA, etc.).
  • Experience with high-speed digital interfaces (DDR3/4, PCIe, Gigabit Ethernet, LVDS, MIPI), switch-mode power supplies, and low-noise analog circuits.
  • Embedded programming experience (C for ARM Cortex-M, STM32, PIC, or similar; Python for test automation).
  • Familiarity with military/aerospace standards and environmental testing (vibration, shock, thermal cycling, salt fog).
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and work closely with ME team on tight electromechanical integrations.
  • Expert level proficiency with Altium Designer
  • Experience with JIRA is a plus.
  • RF PCB design (50 Ω impedance control, microstrip/stripline, antennas, 2.4/5 GHz, L/S/C-band).
  • IPC-6012 Class 3, J-STD-001, and IPC-A-610 knowledge.
  • Familiarity with flying probe, ICT, or functional test development.
  • Basic FPGA experience is a bonus

Responsibilities

  • Perform schematic design and multi-layer PCB layout (up to 12+ layers, high-density interconnect, rigid-flex, RF, high-speed digital, mixed-signal, and power) using Altium Designer (primary tool).
  • Own the full PCB lifecycle: component selection, design for manufacturability (DFM), design for test (DFT), thermal/power analysis, signal/power integrity, and EMI/EMC compliance (MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-810, DO-160 as applicable).
  • Build, bring-up, and debug prototype and production hardware in the lab using oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, logic analyzers, thermal cameras, etc.
  • Support transition to production: generate fabrication/assembly packages, conduct design reviews, resolve DFM issues with contract manufacturers, and support first-article inspection and conformal coating.
  • Develop and maintain firmware/scripts in C/Python for microcontroller bring-up, automated PCB testing (bed-of-nails/ICT/FCT), manufacturing programming stations, and lab automation.
  • Collaborate daily with systems, mechanical, FPGA, software, and manufacturing engineers in an Agile environment.
  • Write and maintain design documentation, BOMs, test plans, and ECOs to AS9100/ISO-9001 standards.
