About The Position

This entry-level position provides the opportunity to work alongside experienced trades workers while learning new techniques and developing a broad range of maintenance and construction skills. The position supports maintenance operations across Port facilities and assists with a variety of trade-related tasks.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of procedures and techniques used in construction trades.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and safety equipment.?
  • Basic knowledge in two or more of the following trades: plumbing, electrical, carpentry, masonry, painting
  • Ability and willingness to work overtime, rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, on ladders, scaffolding, towers and lift buckets up to considerable height.
  • Ability to operate motor vehicles, willingness to be trained in how to operate and maintain passenger loading bridges, willingness to learn and operate diesel, gas or electric equipment including boats.
  • Ability to work in a subtropical climate under adverse weather conditions, high noise levels and around hazardous environment.
  • Ability to work effectively with others and be able to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Completion of the tenth grade; and
  • One or more years of experience as a skilled trades worker in two or more of the following trades: plumbing, electrical, carpentry, masonry, painting, or other skilled trades.
  • Or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies listed above.
  • Incumbent must possess a current and valid Florida Motor Vehicle Operator’s License or capable of obtaining one within thirty days from the date of hire.
  • Must successfully pass a seaport security background check and compliance for a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).

Responsibilities

  • Performs diverse tasks including but not limited to set up and breakdown for events at designated facilities; moving furniture; assembling cubicles; performing routine inspections or inventories.
  • Perform property maintenance like tree trimming, fence repairs, painting, small roof repairs and pressure washing.
  • Assist with complex repairs, maintenance and new construction on port buildings, port tenant buildings and any other infrastructure.
  • Assist with installations, preventative maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment, passenger bridges, water and sewer systems(plumbing), fire pumps, generators, fire protection, electrical systems, HVAC systems, etc.
  • Assist with job planning, procurement of materials for preventive maintenance or new projects and/or any safety-related needs.
  • Assist with the construction, maintenance, and repair of roads, ditches, culverts, and associated structures.
  • In the event of an emergency or disaster, it will be required to respond promptly to duties and responsibilities.
  • Respond promptly during emergencies or disaster situations as required.
  • Utilize a computerized maintenance management system to maintain daily records and logs of operating conditions and mechanical equipment repairs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
