POSITION SUMMARY: To perform electrical, instrumentation, mechanical inspections, repairs and rebuilds on all plant operating equipment to ensure continuous operation within the required quality control standards. This role is critical to achieving Plant OEE and Equipment Availability goals by elimination of unplanned stops and extended downtimes. Incumbents in the position are required to participate in company-sponsored training and certification programs to ensure that their job knowledge and skills meet evolving company standards. The Multi-Skilled Craft role is a Preventative Maintenance and Focused Improvement specialist engaged to optimize the running and maintenance of equipment within the facilities. Where breakdowns occur the multi-skilled craft role will act to diagnose and troubleshoot faults and where necessary will recommend design improvements. She/he is also intimately involved with setting the Maintenance Strategy for their respective assigned areas. The Multi-Skilled Craft role is professionally competent and qualified to operate safely at a post apprentice level in at least two of the principal engineering disciplines; mechanical, electrical or Instrumentation and Control. She/he must be a mentally agile and advanced problem solver actively engaged in maintaining a safe work environment, which protects product quality and reduces waste and other environmental impact. A positive contributor to the facility’s work environment and culture, the multi-skilled craft role will act as a leading coach/mentor to the existing mechanical and electrical classifications around the areas of mechanical/electrical engineering and World Class Maintenance techniques.

Requirements

  • Must be capable of working any shift or rotation, overtime, be on-call, or work seven days a week, if needed.
  • Strong record of attendance reliability is required.
  • Must be able to work long hours during plant outages.
  • Programmer Logic Control experience. (Certification and/or relevant work experience is required)
  • Must be able to multi task with a strong sense of urgency to meet the customer needs.
  • Must be able to work well within a team environment and take instructions from management and coach/mentor the electrical and mechanical classifications.
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently.
  • Must have proven reading and mathematical skills.
  • Must have good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to read, write, and interpret documents such as work orders, blue prints, mechanical/electrical drawings/schemes, safety rules, standard operating procedures, maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals.
  • Must know, understand and observe all department and plant safety rules and maintain a high level of housekeeping in assigned work areas.
  • Strong Industrial electrical/mechanical background with proven troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to detect potential problems through observation in the field.
  • Must have an active telephone number with the ability to be available for plant maintenance call-outs.
  • Good analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Must possess basic computer skills on how to use MS Office products and SAP.
  • Must be physically able to perform work assigned.
  • Must be physically capable of accessing all plant, mine, quarry, and office locations.
  • Access all areas within a site which could include heights of 120 feet, confined spaces, climbing ladders or stairs, and accessing tunnels.
  • Previous 2-4 years of electrical and/or mechanical industrial experience in a heavy manufacturing, construction, and/or mining environment.
  • Experience with PLC programming, electrical control systems/programs, Instrumentation, welding, conveys belt installation and repairs, bearings install/reinstall, hydraulic systems, pumps and gears, equipment alignments, reading of blue prints and mechanical/electrical drawings.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Completion of an apprenticeship program, technical program, and/or trade school formalized training for both mechanical and electrical capabilities with previous experience electrical and mechanical industrial field.

Nice To Haves

  • 4-6 years of proven electrical/mechanical industrial experience in a mining environment is highly preferred.
  • Associates or Bachelor Degree in industrial mechanical/electrical technology/engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Preventative Maintenance Specialist and user of Condition Based Monitoring and report findings (both verbally and in writing)
  • Fully Operational on Mechanisms, Motion, conveyor, hydraulic systems.
  • Electrical Skills and Diagnostic; Remove and replace major electrical components (such as motors, switch/control gear) and troubleshoot electrical circuits safely.
  • Able to isolate machinery and re-install electrical supplies for machinery components.
  • Establish power distribution systems and electrical control circuits.
  • Install electrical drive systems and Control Loops.
  • Instrumentation and Control Skills: - REQUIRED SKILLSET Demonstrate an understanding of the Internal Architecture of Program Logic Control (PLC) and Distributed Control Systems (DCS); their Applications and Knowledge of the Number Systems they use.
  • Amend control and software documentation.
  • Manage PLC and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition Networks (eg Program modifications, Force Devices and fault finding).
  • Must complete and document Workplace Inspections in a timely manner
  • Must ensure all inventory parts are correctly charged from Stores as per LNA procedures
  • Must possess a good knowledge of power distribution systems
  • Must be well versed in the installation, maintenance, and adjustment of transformers
  • Must be able to perform low voltage and high voltage terminations
  • Must be capable of performing maintenance on switchgear up to 4160 volts
  • Must be capable of troubleshooting and maintaining all types of starters
  • Must be able to perform extensive electrical calculations
  • Must be able to perform tasks with all electrical test equipment (volt meters, meggers, current generators, loop calibrators, etc)
  • Must be able to fabricate and install conduit
  • Must be able to perform soldering operations
  • Must be able to test, troubleshoot and repair AC/DC motors and drives
  • Must be able to install and align electrical motors
  • Must be able to troubleshoot and maintain motor control circuits and air dryers
  • Must be able to calibrate, troubleshoot and maintain belt-weighing devices
  • Must be able to maintain and replace control valves, actuators and positioners
  • Must be proficient in the use of precision measuring tools (micrometers, dial indicators, etc)
  • Should possess knowledge of the CMMS System and be willing to correctly complete work orders and checklist including signing and dating
  • Must be familiar with thermography and fully understand the uses
  • Must be able to troubleshoot and perform repairs to hydraulic/pneumatics systems
  • Must be able to perform troubleshooting and repairs on Gas Analyzers
  • Must be able to troubleshoot and modify control loops
  • Must be able to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair cameras and monitors
  • Must be able to troubleshoot and maintain variable speed drives
  • Must be able to troubleshoot, calibrate and maintain pressure-sensing devices
  • Must be able to troubleshoot, calibrate and maintain motion and temperature-sensing devices
  • Must be able to troubleshoot, calibrate and maintain flow control valves and meters and level indicators
  • Ensures maintenance tools are kept in good condition, repaired, replaced when necessary
  • Must possess and maintain a complete set of personal hand tools as per the LNA tool list
  • Must perform post-job inspection to ensure a high level of housekeeping standards
  • Must be able to operate small mobile equipment
  • Must be willing to upgrade skills by participating in vendor training
  • Must be willing to upgrade level of skills by participating in company-designated training
  • Must be willing to train on any new equipment installations
  • Must ensure all inventory parts are correctly charged from Stores as per LNA procedures
  • Must be well versed in the installation and maintenance of all types of bearings
  • Must possess a good knowledge of oil and grease seals and their applications
  • Must possess a good knowledge of lubricants and their uses
  • Must be able to perform shaft alignments using precision alignment tools
  • Must be able to perform chain and sprocket installation and alignments
  • Must be able to perform belt and sheave installation and alignment
  • Must be able to install and align all types of new equipment
  • Must be able to disassemble and rebuild all types of crushing, screening, and conveying equipment
  • Must possess a high level of rigging skills
  • Must have experience and expertise in the installation of pneumatic and hydraulic piping systems including the use of proper fittings and connectors
  • Must be able to troubleshoot and repair all plant environmental equipment and demonstrate knowledge of baghouse operation
  • Must be able to service and perform all types of repairs to air compressors presently in service
  • Must be proficient in the use of precision measuring tools (micrometers, dial indicators, etc.)
  • Must be qualified to weld in all four positions (certification)
  • Must be proficient in all kinds of acetylene cutting and welding
  • Should be able to perform thickness testing
  • Should understand what thermography is used for
  • Should have a complete understanding of non-destructive testing
  • Must be able to troubleshoot and perform repairs to hydraulic/pneumatics systems
  • Perform other duties as assign.
