About The Position

The post holder is responsible for delivering a safe, efficient and cost-effective Estates maintenance service across all Trust properties. The role involves carrying out planned and reactive maintenance, installation and improvement works in compliance with statutory requirements, organisational standards and Health and Safety legislation. The position requires a high degree of technical competence, flexibility and teamwork, including supporting other trades, contractors and undertaking tasks outside core skills when required. The post holder participates in a shift rota to ensure service provision 24/7 and must be capable of responding to emergencies, working across trade boundaries and operating in challenging conditions. In addition to technical duties, the role promotes continuous quality improvement and upholds the Trust’s values by maintaining a positive professional image and supporting an inclusive, safe environment for patients, staff and visitors. Advert Accountable to the supervisor and Electrical and Mechanical Engineers for the cost effective and efficient operation of all plant, services and equipment within his control, including the planning, monitoring and co-ordination of engineering maintenance programmes within the Estates department. Undertake engineering maintenance on a day-to-day basis, including dealing with operational incidents as and when they arise. Effectively diagnose engineering faults and initiate repairs. Work to specifications and drawings for revenue and capital works. Undertake and implement the programme of engineering maintenance. Liaise with the wider Estates Management team to prepare engineering maintenance and plant replacement programmes on an annual basis. Carry out Minor New Works as requested. Assist with investigations into engineering failures of plant, service, or equipment with reference to complaints and litigation issues including Health, Safety and Welfare at work, incident reporting and risk management . Undertake training to maintain, including, but not limited to: - Decontamination Medical Gas Ventilation Water Lifts HV/LV Co-operate with the wider team in updating annual maintenance plans. Carry out risk assessments for engineering related issues. Advise line management on needs for plant replacement. Working for our organisation QE Facilities (QEF) is a wholly owned subsidiary company of Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust (GHNT), based in the North East of England. We provide a range of non- clinical services to GHNT and other NHS organisations. Our services include: estates, facilities services, procurement, medical engineering and devices, endoscopy decontamination and sterile services, transport, out-patient pharmacy, and prevention & management of violence & aggression training (PMVA). In addition we provide consultancy services, advising clients on all aspects of establishing a subsidiary company within an NHS body to the provision of VAT compliance advice. QE Facilities work to their own Terms and Conditions and these are not the same as Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust Terms and Conditions. This is not an Agenda for Change Pay Rate. We do not hold a sponsorship license and are unable to offer employment under any sponsorship arrangement.

Requirements

  • Able to work independently and on own initiative to manage workload.
  • Able to provide, receive and interpret routine/technical information.
  • Able to work in adverse environmental conditions (i.e. ducts, restricted spaces, boiler house, inclement weather, etc.).
  • Demonstrate high degree of cross trade flexibility, including building maintenance.
  • Able to work with discretion/ in a sensitive manner in and around patient situation.
