About The Position

K2K9 Solutions is seeking motivated professionals to join our canine team as a Multi-Purpose Canine (MPC) Trainer at our state-of-the-art Canine Training Academy located outside Southern Pines North Carolina. The right candidates will have excellent problem-solving skills related to SP training requirements, the ability to conduct Hands-on training on Multi-Purpose dogs. They should also have extensive understanding of behavior shaping and changing, dog drives (prey, retrieve, hunt) and principals of conditioning (positive and negative reinforcement and punishment) What you'll get to do: You will provide primary training for multi-purpose canines. You must be capable of documenting training requirements and capable of managing training efforts for all dogs assigned. You must be willing to follow specified training guidance provided by K2K9’s Senior Trainers. You will have the chance to participate in weekly meetings to review and evaluate the canine training provided and identify opportunities to improve the quality of training delivered. You will assist in the development of assessments of assigned trainers (if applicable) and when necessary, recommend corrective action for any problems that arise. You will participate in operational and developmental test and evaluations and processes at various locations to include actual operational environments. You'll help in the scheduling of facilities to conduct training and oversee training of assigned dogs.

Requirements

  • Ability to pass a background check and a drug test
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Must possess a national/state/provincial military or law enforcement certification as an explosives detection working dog trainer.
  • Must possess a minimum of four (4) years' experience as a military or law enforcement canine handler, or a minimum of three (3) years performing as a military or law enforcement canine trainer (this experience must have been earned within the last five (5) years and experience may be gained in the employ of any national, state, provincial, local, or commercial entities providing armed high threat protective services.)
  • Proven and documented experience with maintaining canine training records, handling, utilization and storage of explosive training aids
  • Must possess extensive understanding of behavior shaping and changing, dog drives (prey, retrieve, hunt) and principals of conditioning (positive and negative reinforcement and punishment)
  • Must be able to lift and carry awkward items weighing up to 100 lbs
  • Requires standing for long periods of time in all weather conditions
  • Requires intermittent sitting, walking, running, climbing, squatting, stretching, bending, and kneeling throughout the work day
  • Requires constant use of hands and fingers to feel, handle or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms
  • Must meet all requirements to pass DOT physical and obtain DOT license

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for producing fully finished MPC detection canines from assigned truck of green dogs. Training includes all aspects of: obedience, imprinting, olfaction work in, on, and around: vehicles; luggage; boxes; cargo; open areas; buildings; and others as assigned.
  • Responsible for documenting training records and capable of managing training efforts for all dogs assigned.
  • Responsible for maintaining the day-to-day health and welfare of assigned canines
  • Responsible for following specified training guidance provided by K2K9’s Senior Trainers.
  • Will participate in operational and developmental test and evaluations and processes at various locations to include actual operational environments
  • Responsible for maintaining all assigned canine related equipment including but not limited to: truck; trailer; leads; rewards; training apparatuses; and other tools as assigned.
  • Responsible for the safe handling of explosive training aids and adherence to explosives storage protocols, transportation protocols, and cross contamination protocols
  • Must maintain eligibility for ATF Possessors License for Explosive training aides.
  • Due to the nature of this position, candidates must be eligible to possess firearms and explosives in accordance with 27 CFR Part 555 and 27 CFR Part 478. Proof of eligibility will be verified as part of the hiring process.
