About The Position

Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center is an 881-bed quaternary care academic medical center that is a joint venture between Baylor College of Medicine and St. Luke's Health. Located in the Texas Medical Center, the hospital is the home of the Texas Heart® Institute, a cardiovascular research and education institution founded in 1962 by Denton A. Cooley, MD. The hospital was the first facility in Texas and the Southwest designated a Magnet® hospital for Nursing Excellence by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, receiving the award five consecutive times. Baylor St. Luke's also has three community emergency centers offering adult and pediatric care for the Greater Houston area.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree (preferred).
  • Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists - following certifications are acceptable: ARRT (R) (CT) (MR) (N) (M).
  • For ARRT (CT), must obtain within 9 months of hire/transfer.
  • Certified by State of Texas - MRT; must maintain as current.
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.

Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of specialized technical tasks associated with the operation of MRI and other imaging modalities in an outpatient setting to assist the radiologist in the detection of anatomical abnormalities.
  • Responsible for daily operations of the outpatient MRI section, patient schedule, equipment maintenance, reporting of equipment failures, and quality assessment (QA).
  • Maintains a high standard of medical ethics at all times and is self-motivated to increase level of understanding and knowledge of the field, disease, and new procedures as they evolve.
  • Utilizes innovative customer service techniques to provide a positive patient care experience for the patient and their family.
  • Acts professionally in all dealings with internal and external customers to promote a working environment that focuses on the patient experience.
  • Screens patients for MR safety prior to procedure performance.
  • Administers contrast media or as directed and per protocol.
  • Evaluates the imaging study for technical quality, collates processed images and sequence of exposure, and labels appropriately.
  • Actively participates with patient care exams, performing routine, urgent, and emergent patient requests.
  • Reviews the physician orders to verify the types of diagnostic exam requested and that the indication for the procedure is consistent.
  • Communicates effectively with patients and their families about the procedure to be performed.
  • Establishes and maintains lines of communication with all other staff members and Radiologist.
  • Completes image processing, PACs QA, including the documentation of logs, demographic and diagnostic information required for departmental, hospital, and patient record documentation.
  • Completes all image post-processing.
