About The Position

Multi-Modality Radiology technologist will perform high quality imaging in the designated modality in a safe and efficient manner. The multi-modality technologist will rotate through the general imaging modalities and will perform general imaging studies and portable radiography as necessary. They will operate complex radiographic equipment to obtain images of the breast and general imaging structures and will assist in the performance of breast biopsy procedures within the main hospital or other specialty areas of a large and diversified department of radiology.

Requirements

  • Generally requires 3 to 5 years of related experience.
  • Graduation from an accredited program in Radiologic Technology with additional training in MR is required.
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
  • Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions.
  • Knowledge and skill in use of job appropriate technology and software applications.
  • Must meet and maintain current all unit specific and organizational skills/competencies, certifications/licensures, as required by the clinical area.
  • Employees hired BEFORE 2/1/2017 must obtain the required ARDMS and/or ARRT certification by 12/31/2017.
  • Employees hired AFTER 2/1/2017 who have completed training at JHS MUST obtain their required certification within six months of hire.
  • Any new hires with external training must have the required certification at the time of hire.

  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers is required upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment.

  • May also be exposed to needle sticks, airborne infections, medical gases, X-Ray, chemical exposures and other potential hazards.
  • Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when exposed to infectious/clinical hospital environment.

Responsibilities

  • In the absence of the supervisor or in conjunction with the supervisor, supervises technologist and ancillary personnel in the complete performance of diagnostic procedures and makes decisions using own best judgment
  • Assists subordinate personnel in routine duties including performance of less specialized procedures, cleaning and daily maintenance of areas, and transportation of patients within the department.
  • The MMT will be accountable to all functions associated with general radiology and diagnostic / interventional, neuro interventional radiology, post processing of all images, completion and charging of exams, sending studies to PACS and any other relevant duties necessary to provide timely and effective patient care in their primary and advanced modalities.
  • Computes technical factors on an individual patient basis, to produce radiographs of proper detail, density and contrast to ensure good quality control.
  • Utilizes automatic exposure control in an effort to minimize dose when appropriate.
  • Operates advanced modality equipment with emphasis on high quality images at the lowest possible dose.
  • The MMT will have a good understanding and practice of sterile procedure.
  • The MMT will have a high comprehension of procedure performance in the general, special, diagnostic and interventional radiology modalities and will assist the performing physician in a manner necessary to provide good patient care.
  • Assists physicians during advanced procedures; prepares sterile trays, may scrub tableside, may assist with the deployment of specialized equipment necessary to assist physician in the interventional procedure.
  • Obtains lab results from the electronic medical record that may necessary in the performance of advanced specialized procedure
  • Provides radiation protection in accordance with prescribed safety standards.
  • Receives on the job training in specialized technical areas, and attends department in-service programs to learn to use of new equipment and/or advanced techniques pertaining to the multiple modalities practiced.
  • Adjusts equipment at appropriate angles and heights, and positions patients according to department protocol.
  • Provides and uses immobilization devices as required, while adhering to safety standards particular to the age-specific needs of the patient.
  • Will possess competency for all imaging modalities the MMT performs within
  • Will act as a preceptor to new trainees to the primary or advanced imaging modalities
  • Obtains and documents laboratory records and reports for the performing physician for advanced biopsy procedures.
  • Complies with all safety rules and regulations, departmental and hospital rules and protocol for all procedures.
  • Possesses and maintains understanding of the principles of growth and development.
  • Assesses data reflective of the patient's status, and interprets the information needed to identify the patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs.
  • Adhere and promote service excellence standards as detailed in policy 359A; Standards of Excellence.
