About The Position

The Multi-Modality Imaging Technologist's primary responsibility is to perform procedures with related techniques across any two imaging modalities (e.g., XR, CT, MRI), producing images for interpretation by a licensed independent practitioner. This role requires operating equipment and accessories, possessing knowledge of workflows, procedures, and processes specific to the two chosen modalities, and selecting appropriate imaging/sequences based on approved protocols and other influencing factors. The technologist is responsible for obtaining and documenting patient clinical history and relevant lab work, utilizing POC devices for lab work, and applying safety principles to minimize risks to patients, self, and others. Key duties include providing radiation and other specific protection, verifying patient identification using two identifiers, and validating prescribed procedures. As required by the modalities, the technologist may perform venipuncture (including starting, maintaining, or removing IV access), identify, prepare, and/or administer medications/contrast as prescribed, and use power injectors following manufacturer guidelines for infusion rates and pressure. The position also requires participation in on-call schedules.

Requirements

Certification and Registration with ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) or RDMS (Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer) or CNMT (Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist)
Required to be competent in 2 of the following and obtain certification within 12 months: Bone Densitometry (BD), Breast Sonography (BS), Radiologic Technology (R), Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MR), Ultrasonography (S), Nuclear Medicine (N), Cardiovascular Interventional Radiography (CV) grandfathered, Cardiac Interventional Radiography (CI), Cardiac Sonographer (CS), Vascular Interventional Radiography (VI), Mammography (M), Vascular Sonography (VS), Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT)
BLS Basic Life Support, American Heart Association (required at hire for Roper St Francis Healthcare locations; required prior to independent patient care at BSMH)

Associate's from an ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) accredited institute or of an approved Nucelar Medicine Technology program or of an approved School of Ultrasound/Medical Sonography
1 year of experience in healthcare environment
EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR) training
Picture archiving communiation system (PACS) training
Radiology Information System (RIS) training
IV Contrast Administration training
BLS Basic Life Support, American Heart Association (preferred at hire for BSMH)

Responsibilities

Performs duties for any 2 imaging modalities (ex: XR, CT, MRI) (ex: ARRT, RDMS)
Meets any continuing education or clinical requirements as required by regulatory standards
Operates equipment, accessories and is knowledgeable in workflows, procedures and processes of the 2 imaging modalities
Selecting appropriate imaging/sequences with consideration given to approved protocols and other factors influencing data acquisition parameters
Obtains patient's clinical history and appropriate lab work ensuring information is documented and available for use by a licensed practitioner
Use of POC device for Lab work
Applies Safety principles with a focus on the 2 imaging modalities to minimize risk to patient, self and others that may affect the patient’s safety, damage the equipment or affect the image quality
Provides radiation protection and other protection specific to the 2 modalities for the patient and others
Verifies patient identification using two patient identifiers and the procedure requested or prescribed by validating the order
When required by either of the 2 modalities, performs venipuncture including starting, maintaining and/or removing intravenous access
When required by either of the 2 modalities, identifies, prepares and/or administers medications/contrast as prescribed by a licensed practitioner
When required by either of the 2 modalities, uses a power injector for the administration of medication with approved vascular access device
Follows manufacturer guidelines regarding infusion rates and pressure
Scheduled for on-call as required
