About The Position

Join University of Chicago Medicine as a Multi-Modality Imaging Technologist (CT/MRI) in the Radiology Department. Here, you will perform imaging in multiple modalities (CT and MRI), demonstrating full competency and maintains certification and licensed as required by the accrediting bodies and state. You will provide appropriate patient care and recognizes patient’s conditions essential for successful completion of the procedures within the modalities were assigned to work. You also will service are provided in accordance with industry standards, all department protocols and processes, and hospital policies and procedures. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.

Requirements

  • Satisfactory completion of formal primary pathway in Radiology, CT or MRI accredited program and clinical training in an AMA or JCERT approved program
  • Licensure by the state of Illinois (IEMA) as required when using radiation producing equipment.
  • The Multi-Modality Imaging Technologist is required to be registered in all modalities and has advanced certifications for the modalities as indicated
  • Current registry by ARRT or ARMRIT, and advanced certification in all disciplines were assigned to work. Advanced certification in the other modality required within 12 months of hire date
  • As indicated for the disciplines where hired to work: ARMRIT – American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists Magnetic Resonance Technology
  • ARRT Credentials / Primary & Post Primary Certifications Computed Tomography – (CT) Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MR)
  • CPR training required and BLS training recommended
  • Effective communication skills and excellent patient care skills required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs imaging in two or more modalities.
  • Imaging in the modalities as assigned and holds competency in these modalities.
  • Performs procedures according to set protocols established by radiologists.
  • The modalities in reference are CT and MRI. The split imaging time between modalities will be determined by the primary manager who will ensure accuracy is tracked in Kronos to the correct cost center
  • Review all requisitions to ensure correct exam(s) have been ordered and allotted the proper time frame. Coordinate exams that require direct Radiologist involvement
  • Has knowledge of and utilizes appropriate care protocol relating to the physical and psychological needs of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, young and mature adults, and geriatric patients
  • Prepares contrast media, (or radio pharmaceutical) performs venipuncture, and administers contrast (or radio pharmaceutical) to patients under the direction of the physician
  • Review/evaluate completed exams for quality and proper format. Makes notation to Radiologist when images are to be repeated and the proper technical factors needed for correction
  • Provides patient education prior to, during, and subsequent to the procedure in order to reduce patient anxiety and enhance patient comfort, providing optimal imaging
  • Reports and records all malfunctioning equipment to Imaging Manager and/ Clinical Engineering appropriately
  • Appropriately utilizes imaging systems, accessories and patient positioning techniques to generate quality images
  • Actively participates in a multidisciplinary approach to patient care. Works closely with patient concierge, medical assistants, nurses and physicians to achieve positive outcomes and optimal patient flow
  • Ensure safety of patients and non-radiology staff in and around the imaging scanner/equipment. Ensures that all regulatory compliance standards are met to ensure patient and staff safety
  • Participates in continuing education activities to maintain appropriate accreditation
  • Utilizes radiology information systems in accordance with current guidelines and protocols
  • Perform daily quality assurance (QA) scans to ensure the system is in good working order
  • Check to ensure that routine PMs (Preventive Maintenance) are performed as scheduled.
  • Routinely checks equipment for damage and reports repairs as needed. (Ex. Checks the RF coils if working in MRI for damage/and report repairs
  • Document all system errors and save raw image and raw data when necessary to help service personnel troubleshoot any problems with the systems
  • Assists with Radiology QI metrics and reporting
  • Participates in daily readiness and MDI reporting as needed
  • Participates in EOC rounds, SIMS labs, and new projects when asked
  • Assists with new staff training and orientation and serves as a conduit for communication when needed between the manager and the front-line staff
  • Assists with providing staff schedules if needed/ as assigned by manager
  • Performs other duties as requested by management
