About The Position

Tetra Tech, an industry leader and nationally recognized engineering and consulting firm, is seeking candidates to fill a full-time Hazardous and Solid Waste multi-media Environmental Technical Specialist position for on-site work at AFRC, CA. This position requires the successful candidate to support hazardous and solid waste management activities; perform sample collection from waste water systems, perform field inspections of facility assets such as above ground storage tanks, generators, etc., collect field samples, perform shop inspections related to HW/SW, manage data entry and records associated with environmental programs, complete chain of custody documentation, and prepare samples for shipment to an analytical laboratory; compliance inspections; utilize NASA data systems to manage environmental programs.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and other guidance documents and federal environmental regulations relevant to hazardous and solid waste management.
  • Working knowledge of NASA Waste Management System (WMS) and other NASA mission support systems and reporting software.
  • Working knowledge of hazardous and solid waste management, and Occupational Safety Health Administration Hazard Communication Standard found in 29 CFR 1910.
  • Current HAZWOPER (40 CFR 2626.17, 29 CFR 1910.120, 8 CCR Section 5192), RCRA (40 CFR 262.17, 22 CCR 66262.17), DOT Training (49 CFR 172.704), and Forklift training is required for this position.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to drive on client sites.
  • Must be detail oriented to properly document field sampling activities, package samples for shipment, and complete chain of custody documents.
  • This position requires the candidate to be a U.S. Citizen due to the projects they will be working on.
  • This position requires the successful candidate to obtain a CAC card.

Nice To Haves

  • Current training for DOT, RCRA, 40-hour HAZWOPER/8-hr refresher, and forklift training is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Pick up waste containers--verifying accurate labeling; waste container contents; serializing, issuing, inspecting, receiving, and transport of containers to approved storage locations.
  • Consolidate materials/wastes for collection/disposal.
  • Review and track hazardous waste manifests and coordinate with transportation/disposal contractors for container removal; maintain all records.
  • Maintain HW contingency plan, SOPs, assist with the preparation of SB 14 HW Source Reduction reports, biennial HW reports, conduct waste sampling tasks.
  • Conduct weekly inspections of HW accumulation sites (CAA, SAAs, etc.) and prepare inspection reports, corrective actions, and root cause analysis for deficiencies.
  • Conduct RCRA Training and maintain training presentations/materials.
  • Provide complete and accurate reports documenting environmental compliance activities and/or deficiencies.
  • Support sampling efforts for wastewater and hazardous waste characterization tasks.
  • Support project management functions to ensure contract compliance, schedule tracking, monthly reporting, etc.
  • Perform inspections for POL related equipment, assist with spill response, perform shop inspections for Hazardous waste/materials.
