The Opportunity
Abbott Transfusion Medicine is a part of Abbott Diagnostics family of businesses, bringing together exceptional teams of experts and industry leading technologies to support the manufacture and diagnostic testing which provides important information for treatment and management of diseases and other conditions. Our location in Abbott Park, IL currently has an opportunity for a full-time Multi-Craft Mechanic III – 2nd shift. In this role you will perform repairs to production equipment and plant utility systems; troubleshooting complex, high-speed filling, packaging and conveying equipment; make machine adjustments to liquid line seamers, bottle sealers and bottle cappers; adjust timing systems such as rotary sterilizers or tray wrappers for proper operation; ensure proper operation of electrical / mechanical components and devices (push buttons, switches, timers, solenoids, electrical disconnects, AC and DC motors); troubleshoot and repair Filtec's, tap tones, barcode scanners and video-jet ink printers. Work well with little supervision. Follow all plant and department procedures, GMP's and plant safety rules. Keep all work areas clean and neat. Housekeeping of the shop is primarily the responsibility of everyone working in the area. Lead other employees including directing other maintenance personnel on a job and providing OJT for employees new to the department. Record and communicate shift activity in an organized manner. Properly use the plant work order system and follow all stockroom procedures. Audit equipment and develop replacement part lists. Work Hours: 2nd shift (Hours: 2:00 pm-10:30 pm)

Requirements

• High School Diploma/GED or Associate technical degree or equivalent experience
• 2(+) years of maintenance experience including but not limited to troubleshooting electrical and/or mechanical high-speed filling, packaging equipment and utilities; making machine adjustments; timing mechanical systems for proper operation; electrical/mechanical skills with utility systems; machining or welding parts, experience with reading blueprints and schematics, experience with pumps, motors and drives; knowledge of the use of precision tools/instruments.
• Hands-on electrical or mechanical skills
• Strong communication skills

Nice To Haves

• Associate Mechanical or Electrical Technical Degree
• Fluent in English, Spanish is a plus
• Knowledge of Maximo and SAP
• Familiarity with tools within Continuous Improvement environment (e.g., Lean Six Sigma, Kaizen, etc.) and participating in problem resolution
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and effectively prioritize the workday
• ‘Out-of-the-box’ thinking and problem-solving

Responsibilities

• Manage daily assigned routine preventative maintenance tasks on equipment, determine repairs needed or to prevent unsafe conditions or to comply with Company and/or Agency rules and regulations.
• Respond to alarm or trouble calls as required and maintain a strong floor presence.
• Functions as a member of Transfusion Medicine/Lake County Distribution Center Maintenance Team and assist as necessary to accomplish production goals and throughput initiatives.
• Address production stop situations and troubleshoot causes of malfunction in equipment and participate in implementing corrective actions to prevent re-occurrence.
• Maintain good knowledge of equipment in the production area (including setup and operation).
• Attend to applicable training needs to maintain consistent service to production equipment/areas of focus.
• Escort and assist as necessary, outside repair persons in the performance of their duties in production areas.
• Maintain appropriate records of work, keep inventory of spare parts and materials, and provide Supervisor with needed information associated with parts or special materials needed to effectively perform repairs on all equipment.
