About The Position

Trident Consulting is seeking an experienced Field Specialist III (Mud Engineer) for one of their clients, a global leader in business and technology services. This role supports offshore drilling operations in the Gulf of Mexico. The Mud Engineer is responsible for managing drilling fluid systems, ensuring optimal performance, and providing technical expertise at customer well sites. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in water-based and oil-based mud systems, offshore operations, and the ability to work independently in high-pressure environments while maintaining strict safety and operational standards.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in drilling fluids / mud engineering
  • Strong expertise in Water-Based Mud (WBM) systems
  • Strong expertise in Oil-Based Mud (OBM) systems
  • Proven experience working in offshore drilling environments
  • Hands-on experience with fluid testing and analysis
  • Hands-on experience with rig operations
  • Hands-on experience with inventory and materials management
  • Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and customer-facing skills
  • Ability to work independently on offshore rigs
  • BOSIET / TBOSIET / HUET (Offshore Survival Training)
  • Offshore Medical Certificate
  • TWIC Card
  • Valid Driver’s License

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in synthetic-based mud systems
  • Strong understanding of drilling operations and well-site coordination
  • Familiarity with digital reporting systems and basic computer tools
  • Strong team collaboration and interpersonal skills

Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain drilling fluid properties through accurate testing and analysis
  • Supervise fluid mixing and pumping operations at rig sites
  • Provide real-time technical support and updates to clients and internal teams
  • Ensure compliance with technical standards and operational procedures
  • Monitor and maintain inventory of drilling fluid materials and chemicals
  • Troubleshoot and resolve fluid-related issues during drilling operations
  • Collaborate with sales teams and support customer engagements onsite
  • Maintain accurate daily reports and documentation using reporting systems
  • Ensure strict adherence to HSE policies, environmental regulations, and safety standards
