About The Position

It is the responsibility of the Medical Technologist to collect laboratory specimen as requested. The specimens are analyzed according to laboratory standards, recorded accurately so that the best service possible is available to the Physicians for use and diagnosis and treatment of the patient.

Requirements

• B.S. Degree, MT (ASCP) certification or MT classification as recognized by GDCH with certification.
• Certification: MT classification as recognized by ASCP, AAB, AMT, or HEW.
• Education and/or In-services to verify ability to obtain specimens appropriately for the age of the patient i.e. Geriatrics, Pediatrics.
• CPR is required every two (2) years.
• With credentials and hospital orientation, entry level into position. Experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Collects, receives and accessions a variety of specimens.
• Performs and documents laboratory test and/or results.
• Performs and records calibration according to policy.
• Performs and records daily Quality Control and documents corrective action.
• Performs and records maintenance procedures according to policy.
• Performs basic clerical duties related to test data with notification of critical values according to policy.
• Performs and records analysis of proficiency test according to policy.
• Maintains assigned lab section to include QC, maintenance logs, inventory of supplies, and procedure manuals.
• Complies with policies and procedures regarding department operations, fire safety and infection control.
• Maintains and ensures patient confidentiality at all times.
• Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
• Completes annual safety, infection control and educational requirements.
• Is knowledgeable of the mission, ethics and goals of the department.
• Participates in CQI activities.
• Trains new MT or MLT employees.
• Employee will be required to be readily available to work during any weather related incidents or other natural disasters and/or any emergency situations that may rise.
