About The Position

The MSIPP CONNECT Undergraduate Intern position at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is designed for undergraduate students interested in law and policy, particularly in the context of national security, energy, and science. This internship offers a research-based experience aimed at students who are traditionally underrepresented in STEM fields. Interns will engage in multidisciplinary teams to address complex national security challenges, contributing to both domestic and international efforts that support U.S. Government objectives in nonproliferation and security.

Requirements

  • Candidates must have a high school diploma / GED or higher.
  • Candidates must be degree-seeking undergraduate students enrolled at an accredited college or university.
  • Candidates must be taking at least 6 credit hours and have an overall cumulative GPA of 2.50.
  • Experience with legal and policy research related to international relations is strongly preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Enrolled in a Bachelor's program at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including cross-cultural communication.
  • Experience performing open-source research.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledgeable in at least one nonproliferation domain such as nuclear security or arms control.
  • Familiarity with federal organizations such as DOE, DHS, DOS, DOD, NNSA, and IAEA.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to research and programmatic support for TPR programs.
  • Work on discrete pieces of larger projects or multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to advance laboratory mission activities.
  • Seek out mentoring opportunities.
  • Utilize technical expertise in scientific, engineering, or policy disciplines.
  • Gather, analyze, and evaluate information from various sources.
  • Develop creative solutions to national and international nuclear nonproliferation problems.
