About The Position

The Assistant Boys Basketball Coach at Mt Spokane High School is responsible for providing knowledge, motivation, and leadership to student-athletes, helping them excel in their sport while promoting their physical, moral, and social development. The role involves organizing practices, supervising athletes, and ensuring compliance with school policies and safety regulations.

Requirements

• Must be 19 or older for Assistant Coach and 21 or older for Head Coach per WIAA rules.
• Must have current First Aid/CPR certification or be able to acquire it by the start of the season.
• Type II Driver's License preferred.
• Understanding of basketball, its safety practices, techniques, and skill development.

Nice To Haves

• Previous coaching experience at the Secondary level.

Responsibilities

• Instruct athletes on techniques, rules, and safety practices of basketball.
• Develop and organize practice programs.
• Schedule and conduct practices according to agreed-upon schedules.
• Supervise athletes during practices and games, ensuring their safety and whereabouts.
• Promote the interscholastic program and align it with the school's overall program.
• Set an example of ethical conduct and sportsmanship.
• Foster an appreciation for athletics among participants and spectators.
• Assist the athletic director in maintaining eligibility lists for athletes.
• Ensure all athletes complete required documentation and medical examinations before the season.
• Communicate with parents regarding team rules and guidelines.
• Follow all safety laws and district policies regarding athlete care and prevention of injuries.
• Complete accident reports for any injuries that occur during practices or games.
• Provide equal opportunities to all athletes as per the nondiscrimination policy.
