As an alum or student of the online MSDS program, have you ever caught an error or typo, gotten stuck with unclear instructions, or had a suggestion to make the Canvas pages more user friendly? If so, this role is for you. All MSDS online faculty engage in a semester-long course refresh process to ensure the quality design and delivery of cutting-edge content. The School of Data Science is hiring a recent alum or current student to participate in the online MSDS course refresh process as a course reviewer, supporting the SDS instructional designer. Additional courses will also be reviewed outside of the refresh process. This position will carefully review Canvas core and elective courses (assignments, pages, resources, quizzes, videos, etc.) at a granular level with an emphasis on quality assurance, course improvement, accessibility, and enhanced student experience. The review will entail immediate fixes when appropriate and inform the requirements for the refresh projects over the academic year. Position Period: Expected mid September 2025 though August 15, 2026, with break in between the terms, for a total of 5-10 hours weekly over 40 weeks. Pay Rate: $16.00 per hour. This position is fully remote and may be performed outside of Charlottesville, VA, in alignment with UVA's remote work guidelines.

  • The work will be divided over three terms, prioritizing the refresh schedule and other selected courses, and is mostly asynchronous, with regular weekly/bi-weekly 15-minute Zoom check-ins with the SDS instructional designer.
  • Utilize a course feedback survey and/or Canvas analytics (quiz/item analysis, media/file usage, etc.) to inform suggested revisions when appropriate.
  • Use a provided rubric to guide the review of the courses and a shared document to specify revisions by providing module/page, problem, solution.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree and be a current student or an graduate of the UVA online MSDS program.
  • Experience: At least one year of experience. In lieu of a degree, a combination of five years of relevant education and/or experience may be considered.
  • Licensure: None
  • Keen attention to detail and ability to clearly communicate orally and in writing.
  • Proactive, independent, and solution oriented.
  • Familiarity with the Canvas LMS and open to searching the Canvas help guides to solve issues.
  • This is a wage position which is not eligible for leave or other benefits and is limited to 1500 hours of work in a year.
